Agricultural Economics (EKU 1226) Description The course introduces microeconomic analysis of agriculture and its role in the economy. Topics Allocation of production factors, supply and demand of agricultural output and input, factors affecting production decision for small farmers, adoption of new technology, and also discusses the interrelationships between agricultural activities and household consumption patterns. Objectives Develop students’ analytical abilities that can be contributed in agricultural policies in Indonesia. ASEAN Economy (EKU 2202) Description The course explores the ASEAN organization who aspires to integrate the economy across south-east Asia into one single region. Topics History of formation of ASEAN, structures of the economies of ASEAN member countries, ASEAN’s contribution to political stability, development of Indonesian economy among member countries, new international economic order, the future of ASEAN, and other regional organizations such as European Economic Community. Objectives Develop students’ understanding on regional economies especially in south-east Asia and able to improve their competitiveness among member countries. Banks and Financial Intermediaries (EKU 2201) Description The course introduces the entire area of money and public finance including commercial banks and other financial intermediaries. Topics Role and functions of money, operation of financial institutions, effects of money and credits on economic activity, the commercial banking systems, risk faced by financial institutions, and management practices in Indonesian banks and financial institutions. Objectives Develop students’ understanding of the importance of money and public finance area on the economic activity. Comparative Economic Systems (EKU 2278) Description The course compares the characteristics and economic institutions of two extreme economic systems: Capitalism and Socialism. Topics Analysis nature and role of financial institutions in capitalist and social countries, advantages and disadvantages of both systems based on certain criteria, specific features of contemporary economic systems, banking systems, labor-management relations, and public finance in the United States, East Germany, Western Europe, Japan, and CIS (former Soviet Union). Objectives Give students the ability to identify the economic policies of a nation greatly affected by its adopted economic institutions and systems and to identify economic factors that determine a mixed economic system such as life philosophies and values, as well as political factors. Cooperative Economics (EKU 2145) Description The course focuses on cooperation in economy and building a cooperative economic networking that integrates political and economic factors. Topics Collaboration for cooperation, factors of cooperation, solidarity of humanity, democracy and the desire to prosperity in a cooperative economic network. Objectives Provide students with essence, methods, and principle of cooperation in order to contribute to the development of cooperation in Indonesia. Development Economics I (EKU 2137) Description The course introduces theories and methods of economic development for developing countries. Topics Characteristics of less developed countries; economic, social, and political problems; growth and development theories; distribution of income; role of government and role of the market to development policy. Objectives Provide students with a descriptive illustration of theoretical approach, empirical research results and government policies to solve numerous problems in developing countries. Development Economics II (EKU 2141) Description The course discusses deeper contents of Development Economics I and give more applications on empirical models to the Indonesian context. Topics Basic growth and development theories; the roles of government, capital, and technology in development; dualistic economic models, and international trade. Objectives Enhance students’ abilities in analyzing development problems by observing various cases that occurred in developing countries, particularly Indonesia. Development Planning (EKU 2227) Description The course introduces basic concepts of development planning. Topics Planning methods, principles and tools for planning especially in developing countries, and problems and risks in development planning. Objectives Provide students with the ability to plan development, especially applying it in Indonesia. Econometrics I (EKU 2105) Description The course discusses basic econometric theories and methods of economic research with special reference to basic concepts of econometric methods and classical assumptions. Topics Topics covered include dummy and limited dependent variables, statistical methods in testing and estimating economic models, and practical applications of cross-section data. Objectives Provide students with understanding and aptitude to analyze economic problems by means of econometric approaches. Econometric II (EKU 3106) Description The course examine further on the fundamentals of econometric theories and methods of economic research.. Topics Applied regression analysis, specification and estimation of economic models, hypothesis testing, interpretation of results, policy implications, problems from violating classical regression model assumptions, estimating production error, variance, seasonal adjustments, pooling of time-series data, lagged variables, and auto-correlation. Objectives Provide students with the ability to understand and analyze economic behaviors using econometric models, particularly dynamic models, simultaneous equation models, and data panels. Environmental and Natural Resources Economics (EKU 2229) Description The course presents various public policies in relation to environmental problems such as acid rain, global warming, and air and water pollutions. Topics Cause of environmental problems, role of markets, international environmental policy, economics of pollution control, cost and benefit analysis to the environment, the economics of sustainable development and environmental policy development. Objectives Develop and use microeconomics principles for better understanding of current environmental problems. Financial Economics (EKU 2204) Description The course examines the economics of inter-temporal pretences in conditions of certainty and uncertainty. Topics Fisher’s Separation Theorem, inter-temporal allocation of resources, budget constraints, economic risks, corporate financing of investments, choice of corporate capital structure, and the implications of corporate dividend policy. Objectives Enhance the applications of microeconomic and statistical theories related to financial economics regarding investments, cost-benefit analysis, and the determination of price. History of Economic Thought (EKU 2148) Description The course introduces the history of economic thought from the beginning of where people start to think about economic until today. Topics Pre-Classical economic thought, classical economic thought, Socialist, Historicist, Institutionalism, neo-classical economic thought, Keynesian, recent developments of economic thoughts, benefits of studying economic thoughts. Objectives Expect students to be able to improve the application of logical and theoretical abilities to fit to the condition in Indonesia. Human Resource Economics (EKU 2228) Description The course introduces the basic concepts and theories of human resource economics, fundamentals of human resource problems, and the implication of theories, empirical studies, and policies in the field of human resources. Topics Labor demand and supply, human capital, compensation and risk differentials, minimum wage and living wage legislation, unemployment, collective bargaining and unions, and labor discriminations. Objectives Provide students with a comprehensive understanding concerning human resource and solve human resource related problems faced in Indonesia. Indonesian Economy (EKU 2147) Description The course introduces the mechanism of the Indonesian economic systems. Topics Role of history, role of culture, Indonesian economic structure, Indonesian economic developments, and development policies in Indonesia. Objectives Provide students with a comprehensive illustration of the system, structure and economic policy in Indonesia. Industrial Economics (EKU 2230) Description The course introduces the way markets and industries are structured and the behavior and performance of institutions in competition, cooperation, corporate interaction with other organizations.. Topics Oligopoly, collusions, determinants of market and corporate structures, price discrimination, and antitrust laws and policies. Objectives Give students understanding on basic concepts and tools of modern industrial economics and to use these tools to examine importance issues in the organization of firms and markets. International Business (EKU 2206) Description The course focuses on the principles and practices of international business with specific examinations on the causes and consequences of the international trade. Topics Economic and political concepts of international trade and investments, mechanism of global monetary systems, strategies, structure and role of international business, impact of trade policy and the trade on welfare, and the role of global human resource management. Objectives Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of scientific research in relation to international business topics. International Economics I (EKU 2140) Description The course introduces trading relationships among countries and flow of production factors throughout the world economy. Topics Free trade basic assumptions, general equilibrium analysis, trade restrictions, impacts of multinational firms, impact of trade and economic development. Objectives Provide students with basic concepts and tools of modern international trade theories and to be able to apply those tools on solving the problems such as on commercial policy and international economic integration. International Economics II (EKU 2144) Description The course examines deeper topics in international finance and open macroeconomics. Topics Major issues in international finance, broader and intermediate macroeconomics tools, insights of the role of international economy, international business cycles and policy coordination, and the nature of currency crises. Objectives Provide students with knowledge of the description, theory, and systems of international payments. International Management (EKU 2207) Description The course introduces the internalization process of business and the approaches of managing business in a global context. Topics Characteristics and implications of internalization, the process of international market entry, causes and impacts of globalization, export and alliances strategy, foreign direct investments, portfolio investment, and international competition Objectives Provide students with knowledge globalization and management and market issues on globalization. Introduction to Microeconomics (EKU 1131) Description The course focuses on basic concepts of microeconomics. Topics Various economic problems, supply and demand analysis, analysis of markets, pricing in a competitive and non-competitive markets, and production factors markets. Objectives Provide students with basic microeconomics concepts and help students gain better understanding of the acquired theories. Introduction to Macroeconomics (EKU 1132) Description The course introduces macroeconomics concepts and analysis. Topics Composition, size and distribution of national output, banking systems, monetary and fiscal policy, international policy, fluctuations, and economic growth. Objectives Provide students with basic understanding on the interaction of market influence with short-term or long-term national and international economic policies. Microeconomics I (EKU 1133) Description The course covers deeper topics on microeconomics concepts and analysis. Topics Theories of consumer choice, consumer and producer behavior, output and input markets. Objectives Develop a deeper understanding of microeconomics concepts and various problems solving using hypothetical and simple empirical cases. Microeconomics II (EKU 2135) Description The course builds on microeconomics with special reference to the usage of assumptions in microeconomics. Topics Basic assumptions in microeconomics, research on microeconomics concepts. Objectives Teach students to formulate actual problems into simle microeconomics models and analyze using acquired theories. Macroeconomics I (EKU 1134) Description The course covers deeper topics on macroeconomics concepts and analysis. Topics Applying theories to macroeconomics problems, quantitative analysis of macroeconomics, and qualitative analysis of macroeconomics. Objectives Provide students with practices in solving macroeconomics problems based on the teories acquired. Macroeconomics II (EKU 2136) Description The course examines greater depth of macroeconomics theories, including advance macroeconomics theories. Topics Fundamentals of economic growth process supply and demand in open economics, theory of economics fluctuations, determinants to aggregate demands, general equilibrium of product, money, and unemployment. Objectives Enhance students’ ability perform macroeconomics analysis in order to learn advance macroeconomics phenomena. Mathematical Economics I (EKU 1101) Description The course deals with various comparative statistical concepts using matheatical tools to analyze economic problems. Topics Limits, one-variable calculus (derivatives and optimization), linear algebra, and multivariate calculus. Objectives Provide students with techniques to obtain a sound understanding of economic concepts using mathematical approach. Mathematical Economics II (EKU 1102) Description The course covers dynamic comparative mathematics in basic economics concepts. Topics Integrals, linear and non-linear differentiation equation. Objectives Provide students with mathematical analysis foundation in order to understand dynamic economics concepts such as in econometrics and macroeconomics. Monetary Economics I (EKU 2139) Description The course introduces basic concepts and theories of money. Topics Role of money, function of banks, the relationships between money and the economy, introduction to monetary theories and policies, their implications to the economy. Objectives Provide students with the ability to use theories in analyzing economic phenomena for solving monetary problems. Monetary Economics II (EKU 2143) Description The course covers deeper topics on monetary concepts and theories. Topics Money supply and demand, research and empirical studies on monetary, monetary case studies in Indonesia Objectives Provide students with knowledge concerning monetary economics theories, including their development and applications. Project Evaluation (EKU 2146) Description The course applies economic theory in evaluating the impact of investment on social welfare. It studies the economic and financial aspects of a project. Topics Objectives and the organization of investment appraisal, financial analysis for cash flow statement, applications of various investment criterion, NPV, IRR, Pay Back Period, and Cost-Benefit Ratio. Objectives Introduce students the impacts of a project toward social welfare, applying economic technical analysis in providing project appraisal information, and studying various cases of development projects. Public Sector Economics I (EKU 2138) Description The course examines the influence of government revenue and expenditure decisions on resource allocation, income distribution, and aggregate economic performance. Topics Economic analysis of government spending and taxation, Cost and benefit analysis on spending and taxation. Objectives Develop students’ ability in analyzing and formulating public economic problems and policies. Public Sector Economics II (EKU 2142) Description The course discusses the functions of government in the economy as reflected in the budget revenue policy. Topics Economic role of the public sector, taxation and income distribution, deficit financing, and current issues regional decentralization. Objectives Develop students’ abilities in analyzing and formulating fiscal policies. Quantitative International Economics (EKU 2209) Description The course discusses quantitative approach for international economics. Topics Basic quantitative approaches for international economics, trade patterns, trade flow analysis, foreign direct investments, and prediction and policy analysis. Objectives Provide students with models and basic tools to analyze the application and policies of international economics. Regional Economics (EKU 2231) Description The course introduces the spatial aspect in economic analysis. Topics Theories of location, rent theory, the concepts of region and their structure, population location (inter-regional migration), regional economic development, and regional development issues. Objectives Provide students with basic concepts of regional development approach for overall economic development. Statistics I (EKU 1103) Description The course discusses fundamental problems in summarizing, interpreting, and analyzing empirical data. Topics Elementary sampling, sampling distributions, probability, measure of central tendency, estimation, regression, and index number. Objectives Develop students’ understanding of statistics and the role of data analysis and mastering the mechanism of applied statistics to be operated in the field of economics. Statistics II (EKU 2104) Description The course emphasizes on statistical methods and theories used to interpret research data. Topics Sampling methods and theories, estimation, hypothesis testing, non-parametric method, and time-series analysis. Objectives Equip students with various statistical concepts and methods that can be used to interpret research data, and introduces appropriate analytical tools for problem solving.
