Deloitte Tax Challenge

Department of Accounting's students, Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) achieved another national accomplishment. Students joining the Taxmanian Devils team, consisting of Samuel Edwardo, Eringga Irfiana, Wikan Karis Basutama, and Karunia Damayanti won the Second Winner on Deloitte Tax Challenge (DTC) 2017. Moreover, Wikan was chosen as the Best Individual Performance and will represent Indonesia in Deloitte Tax Challenge ASEAN Round (Individual Category) in Singapore at the end of February 2017.

DTC is the first tax competition held by one of the biggest public accountant office, Deloitte Indonesia. Judging from the previous experience with DTC, this year competition had become more challenging. In this 2nd year of DTC, the competition was separated into 3 stages. The competition was started by selecting the videos submitted by participants. Fourteen successful participants were invited to compete directly in the office of Deloitte Indonesia on January 12th 2017 for the semifinal stage. At the end, the top 6 semifinalists were invited again to compete in final stage on January 26th 2017. The finalists came from various universities, such as Universitas Indonesia (3 teams), Trisakti School of Management, Universitas Airlangga, and UGM.

In the final stage, the finalists were given two tax cases related to Indonesia and global cases. The cases must be done in 1.5 hours and the result of the case discussion (15 minutes analysis and 5 minutes Q&A) were presented in front of 3 panelists; Managing Partner and Partners of Deloitte Indonesia, Mrs. Melisa Himawan, Mrs. Irene Atmawijaya, and Mr. John Lauwrenz. After the finalists had presented their case solutions, panelists made deliberation and chose the winners of DTC 2017.

"I am very pleased and proud to get the 2nd Winner with this super team and to become the Best Individual Performance in this event. I hope I can give my best in ASEAN round as representation of UGM and Indonesia," said Wikan.
