The network was founded in 1999. In the spirit of shared leadership, the AUN-BE Secretariat initially moved from one university to another based on the host of the Annual General Meeting. This went on until, in 2013, the network appointed a permanent secretariat for the network at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

AUN Annual General Meeting in 2025

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Gadjah Mada Jakarta Campus successfully hosted the ASEAN University Network for Business and Economics Annual General Meeting 2025 (AUN-BE AGM) on January 16-17, 2025, bringing together delegates from ASEAN member countries to strengthen regional cooperation and discuss strategic agendas for economics and business education.

A key focus of the meeting was the ASEAN Cafe session, where delegates divided into two groups to propose strategies for rebuilding member involvement, reactivating activities, and strengthening shifting focus from traditional lectures to immersive programs, such as organizing workshops on case development, collaborating with MSMEs for real world context, and initiating a case writing competition to promote digitally accessible learning, while also proposing enrollment strategies inspired by Singapore Management University. Concurrently, the second group championed initiatives to enhance student mobility within ASEAN, proposed developing an ASEAN Business Case Competition and a Global Classroom focused on entrepreneurship and sustainability, and discussed opportunities for a Ph.D. colloquium, joint research grants, and expanding membership to ASEAN+3 countries, such as China, in areas like green technology.
