The Simfoni Team, consisting of undergraduate students of the Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM, won 1st place in the National Accounting Competition Economic through Innovation (CONCERN) at the Accounting Intelligence Fair 2025.
The team, consisting of Keyra Audrey Annabelle Christian (Accounting 2023), Orie Priscylla Mapeda Lumalan (Accounting 2023), and Anne Grace Pardosi (Accounting 2023), successfully outperformed 34 teams from various universities across Indonesia. The competition, organized by the Accounting Student Association of Universitas Sumatera Utara, lasted from December 2024 to February 2025.
Orie explained that in the competition, each team had to submit an abstract titled “Realizing a Circular Economy: Integrating Sharing Economy, Waste Management, and IoT in an Innovative Marketplace.” Teams that advanced to the next stage submitted a full paper expanding on their abstract. After passing the full paper selection, the finalists created a PowerPoint presentation and delivered it directly to the judges.
Under the mentorship of Ahmad Zaki, S.E., M.Acc., Ph.D., the Simfoni team addressed an environmental issue related to waste management in the batik industry in Yogyakarta. Orie explained that they chose this topic because they were concerned about the increasing consumption of resources and the uncontrolled generation of waste. The fashion industry, especially batik, significantly impacts the environment.
Orie and her team proposed a circular economy-based solution by developing an integrated IoT-based marketplace model that supports the sharing economy. The marketplace aims to improve resource efficiency, promote waste recycling, and facilitate collaboration among business players, particularly batik MSMEs.
Orie concluded that their idea aims to create a digital platform that optimizes resources, extends product life cycles, and reduces waste with the support of IoT technology, thereby promoting a more inclusive and sustainable batik industry.
