FEB UGM Student Won 3rd Place in Australia-ASEAN Youth Summit Case Competition 2018

The 'Navy Rangers' team consisting of students from Universitas Gadjah Mada, University of Melbourne, and Melbourne CIC Higher Education won third place in the Australia-ASEAN Youth Summit (AAYS) Case Competition 2018 held by ASEAN Youth Organization of Australia (AYO Australia). The team consists of Veronika Xaveria (IUP Business 2016 - Double Degree Program at the University of Melbourne), Jun Wei Ang, Yifan Wang and Yennie (Tran Hai Yen) Len. Conferences and competitions attended were held at Jasper Hotel Melbourne, Australia on Saturday, August 25, 2018.
In this competition, each team was required to complete a business case study related to E-Commerce in the ASEAN region. The first stage was the selection process for case solutions where each team was required to collect Powerpoint presentation with no more than 15 slides. Then, four teams that passed the selection stage were advanced to the next round to present their ideas and recommendations at AAYS 2018. AAYS 2018 itself carried the theme "Pioneers of the Future" and consisted of various series of events such as panel discussion sessions, networking, keynote speech, workshops, and presentations of four case competition finalists.
Participants who participated in this competition were not limited to the undergraduate level, so Veronika had to compete with several graduate students. In addition, this competition was also open to all universities in Australia. The theme of the case competition provided was "Technological Product Development based on solving prevalent ASEAN issues". The background to the business case given was that ASEAN's digital economic conditions that are expected to reach a figure of $200 billion in 2025 with an E-Commerce contribution of $88 billion. This sector has the potential to develop in the future, but there are several problems that have the potential to hinder the development of E-Commerce. Therefore, we were required to provide solutions in technology utilization to develop a product that will make E-Commerce in ASEAN more accessible, efficient and effective. The Navy Rangers team focused on solving the problem of low interaction level between sellers and product buyers on a digital platform by using a 360° Live Video Camera, Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR).
Four finalist teams were judged by a panel of judges consisting of leading practitioners in Australia such as Josh Farr, Pamela Yip, Rishi Ker and Dominic Soh for the 10 minutes final presentation and 5 minutes question and answer session. After the finalists presented their solutions, the panelists determined the winners of AAYS 2018.
