AYC 2018

Achievements continue to be accomplished by Universitas Gadjah Mada students. This time undergraduate students of Faculty of Economics and Business UGM made achievements at the ASEAN Youth Conference (AYC) 2018 which took place on September 22nd to 23rd 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The FEB UGM delegation successfully won various awards at AYC 2018. The awards consisted of Jesita Wida Ajani (Economics-IUP 2016) and Alexander Michael Tjahjadi (Economics-Alumni 2014) who won the Best Paper. Also, Jesita Wida Ajani won Best Presenter in this competition. They wrote a paper entitled of “Assessing Financial Inclusion in ASEAN: Are We Done Yet?” The method used was logit model and the data used was the 2014 Findex Micro Data which covered around 8,020 individuals in ASEAN Countries. This research aimed to analyze the effectiveness of existing policy implication in reaching out for women, less-educated individuals, and poorest household. In this competition, they were obliged to compete with participants from various countries such as Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia. Many participants in this competition were also academics and lecturers from various universities in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Jesita Wida Ajani mentioned that in this AYC 2018 competition, there are many stages that must be passed, starting from abstract selection, full paper submission, and presentation. With the short time given in this presentation, it is very challenging to explain the complexity and methods used in the research as simple as possible. This competition is indeed very diverse and challenging because there are many paper presenters who write about law and natural science related topics. So we have to compete with lecturers, young academics, and undergraduates with different clumps of paper. The big topic presented this time in the ASEAN Youth Conference is “ASEAN Among Great Powers Industrial Revolution 4.0.” This conference aimed at inviting ASEAN youth to respond to the problems that are and will be focused by ten ASEAN countries. ASEAN has shown on many occasions that to be considered a central role in the regional and business fundamental political structures. The Industrial Revolution 4.0 becomes a golden opportunity for each ASEAN country to show its existence in the global market. For this reason, It will be the very first leap on the youth movements, in which our youth become the indicator of significant changes in the future, which will be realized by using all the potential of the ASEAN diversity. Many of the speakers at the panel session were experts who worked in the field of information, law, and board of judges from SCOPUS Journal.
