At the Islamic Economist Association (IAEI) DIY Award 2022, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) won the award for the International Journal Article Writing of Islamic Business Management, which was won by Rokhima Rostiani. S.E., M.Mgt., lecturer in the Management Department of the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM. Sambatan Jogja (SONJO) also received a special award for humanitarian action during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, UGM was also nominated in the category of Organizing Master’s Study Programs with a concentration in Islamic Economics in the Master’s of Religion and Cross-Cultural Master’s Study Program.
The activity was held on Thursday (27/01) at Ahmad Dahlan University. This IAEI Award has been held four times since 2018. Held in UGM in 2018, UIN Sunan Kalijaga in 2019, UII in 2020, and UAD. This year, the event was organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business UAD together with IAEI DIY and consisted of three events, namely a seminar, the signing of the MoU with IAEI DIY, and the Awarding.
Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik and Sartini, Ph.D., Ak., CA, were invited to this webinar and were guided by Indianazulfa Qurrota A’yun, S.E., M.Sc., as the moderator and Poppy Laksita Rini, S.E., M.Sc., as the MC. This event was also opened by Dr. Salamatun Asakdiyah, M.Si, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, UAD.
Prof. Mahfud Sholihin, Ph.D., Chairman of the DIY Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI), stated that hosting the 2022 IAEI Award will provide motivation for individuals, institutions, and non-governmental organizations to develop and have a positive impact on the nation’s and state’s well-being.
Mahfud also explained that Islamic philanthropy consists of institutions or non-governmental organizations managing amil, zakat, alms, and infaq. He also stated that, based on his observations, Islamic philanthropy in Indonesia is commendable and hopes that it will continue to improve in the future.
Salamatun also believes that this Islamic philanthropy program supports the government in reducing poverty and aims for the welfare of the people and society. He also added that Islamic philanthropy in Indonesia has enormous potential and needs to be developed for the welfare of the people.
