The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), again received good news. The Punakawan team consists of Exxel Diandra Adyatma (Accounting 2021), Grace Zefanya Octovella Situmorang (Economics 2021), Beatrice Sarah Tiominar Silalahi (Economics 2021), and Gregorius Bintang Kusuma Indriyatno (Management 2021) won the title 1st Runner-Up in the 2023 HSBC Business Case Competition. Every year, undergraduate students from economics and business faculties from various leading universities in Indonesia participate in the HSBC Business Case Competition, a Business Case Competition event organized by PT Bank HSBC Indonesia.
The competition mechanism began with an internal selection at FEB UGM before the Punakawan team advanced to the regional section on 31 March-1 April 2023, which students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta attended. After a rigorous selection process, the Punakawan team managed to advance to the national round, where they had to go through three stages: pre-eliminatory, battle, and final round.
In the preliminary round, 18 teams competed, and only five were selected to proceed to the final round. In the final round, held on April 10-11, the Punakawan team competed with Universitas Prasetiya Mulya and the Intitute Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and finally won the first runner-up position in this prestigious Business Case Competition.
Apart from that, the terms of the competition are similar to last year. All teams must complete a case study within 6 hours and then make a handwritten presentation to the jury. This competition was organized by PT Bank HSBC Indonesia and involved judges from company executives and experts in the business and corporate fields.
Even though the Punakawan team achieved a proud achievement in the competition, Exxel Diandra, as the team leader, experienced several difficulties and significant pressure. One of the challenges is leading and motivating team members to give their best, facing intense competition, and completing case studies quickly. Even so, with good cooperation and support from all parties, the Punakawan team overcame all obstacles and achieved satisfying results.
Congratulations to the Punokawan Team for a proud achievement!
