The issue of sexual violence is an issue that is of concern to many parties today. To prevent and overcome these problems in the campus environment, FEB UGM carried the theme of prevention and handling of sexual violence in FEBinvinity on Friday (27/05). The holding of the webinar was expected to increase the literacy of the FEB UGM academic community in handling and preventing sexual violence in the campus environment.
For the event, FEB UGM invited Mrs. Sri Wiyanti Eddyono S.H., LL.M.(HR), Ph.D., a lecturer at the Faculty of Law UGM, to share her insights regarding the handling of sexual violence on the UGM. The event was also hosted by Mrs. Heyvon Herdhayinta, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of Public Relations at FEB UGM, and a lecturer at FEB UGM.
Sexual violence itself is violence related to sexual rights, coercion related to sexual orientation, and coercion to have sexual relations or perform acts that have a sexual connotation.
Mrs. Sri Wiyanti said that sexual violence could happen due to power relations. Patterns of sexual violence that occur on campus can happen between students and students, lecturers and teaching staff, and so on.
During the presentation of the material, Mrs. Sri Wiyanti also said that the problem of sexual violence could be resolved through ethical or criminal methods, depending on the decision of the victim in that case. Dealing with sexual violence on campus, initially, can be done by filing a complaint to the Integrated Service Unit (ULT) or the task force.
Victims of sexual violence can also report incidents that occur through the faculty or student organizations working in that field. After that, the victim will receive assistance at the faculty level and an assessment will be carried out. Then, victims will also receive academic support and counseling. The campus will also form an ethics committee to deal with the perpetrators in the case and provide the results of the assessment to the rectorate. Mrs. Sri Wiyanti said that processing perpetrators is important because bullying, violence, and harassment tend to repeat.
Given the importance of this, FEB UGM is actively involved in preventing and handling sexual violence. FEB UGM has published a pocketbook related to the prevention and handling of sexual violence in the hope that the academic community and students have a clearer picture regarding this matter. Not only that, FEB UGM also has an Integrated Service Center that provides services related to sexual violence, mental health, and student administration services.
