Students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), have achieved outstanding success at the national level. This time, Ali Alexander, a 2021 student of the Management Study Program, together with Elsa Firlyani (Property Management and Valuation SV 2021), as part of the UGM Pairgrowth team, won 2nd place in the Equity Research Competition at BINUS Stock Quest (BSQ) 2025
Bina Nusantara University (BINUS) organized this stock research competition and culminated in the final round held on May 23, 2025, at the Binus Alam Sutera campus. No less than 50 teams from 27 renowned universities in Indonesia competed for the title in this competition. Some of the universities that participated in this competition include UI, ITB, UGM, UB, UNAIR, BINUS, UNPAD, ITS, and PKN STAN.
Ali explained that the competition process began with a preliminary case, where participants must analyze the issuer of their choice and compile the results into a paper. The team analyzed the issuer PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BRIS). The analysis was conducted thoroughly from a top-down approach, starting from macroeconomic conditions, industry analysis, company competitive advantages, financial analysis and valuation, to technical analysis and investment risk identification. Of the dozens of teams that submitted papers, only the best seven teams made it to the final round based on the quality of their documents. At the end of the presentation, participants must conclude whether BRIS shares were worth investing in.
“The results of our analysis show that BRIS shares are worth investing in based on various indicators and financial projections that we have studied,” said Ali.
Ali said he was delighted with the achievement. He hopes this achievement can motivate and inspire other students to excel.
