The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), graduated 37 new accountants on Friday, 14/11/2025, at FEB UGM. Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FEB UGM, conveyed a message encouraging the new accountants to apply the knowledge, integrity, and professional ethics they have gained during their studies.
“Be accountants who are not only technically competent, but also uphold strong integrity and understand global issues,” Bayu said.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (IAPI), Tarkosunaryo, MBA., Ak, CA., CPA, delivered a scientific oration titled “Becoming an Accountant with Integrity in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Leading Sustainability and Innovation.” He stated that advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) will fundamentally transform accounting practices. However, integrity and ethical judgment, which form part of the profession’s core values, are aspects that cannot be replaced by technology.
“AI will take over many routine tasks. However, only accountants with integrity can critically interpret AI outputs, make ethical judgments, and maintain public trust,” Tarkosunaryo emphasized.
He also highlighted several key competencies that accountants must strengthen in the digital era and in response to sustainability reporting demands, including professional skepticism, digital competence, independence, and objectivity.
