The Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) organized a business digitalization training program for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to support their growth in Indonesia.

FEB UGM’s Center for Entrepreneurship Studies organized the training on the 5th floor of Pertamina Tower from Tuesday to Thursday, November 19-21, 2024. The training gathered 80 MSMEs from Yogyakarta and Central Java. The participants received various training modules for three consecutive days to strengthen their marketing efforts and optimize their business development strategies.

In her opening remarks, Risa Virgosita, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Coordinator of the Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and MSMEs, expressed her hope that the training and business coaching would facilitate the adoption of digital technology for MSME operators.

“This program aims to equip MSME owners with digital knowledge and skills to improve their business operations, especially in marketing, financial reporting, cash flow management, and product development to create unique selling points for consumers,” she explained.

The training featured expert speakers from various fields. On the first day, Ivan Halim, B.Sc. in Business (Chief Marketing Officer of Sevenpreneur), presented on product development and value proposition. At the same time, Sultan Ankaraja, S.M. (CEO of Skincare Sombong by Denny Sumargo) delivered a session on cash flow management.

The second day welcomed Dr. Sahid S. Nugroho, M.Sc. (Marketing Lecturer at FEB UGM), who spoke on leveraging artificial intelligence for digital marketing content. Primastuti Indah Suryani, S.Si, M.Si, M.M. (Influencer and Social Media Enthusiast) shared insights on social media optimization through content creation.

On the last day, Anggit Firmansyah, M.Acc. (Developer of SIDEK-ERP Application) presented a session on Using Applications for Financial Reporting with SIDEK-ERP. This was followed by Dr. M. Fajar Apriyanto, S.Sn, M.Sn. (Lecturer at the Faculty of Media Recording Arts, ISI Yogyakarta) conducted a workshop on Product Photography.

As part of the MSME Business Coaching Program, a Business Clinic for MSMEs will be held on December 4-6, 2024. The clinic will feature consultation sessions, hands-on exercises, and Q&A opportunities with experts to help MSME operators address their business challenges.

The training and business coaching program will culminate with a selection of MSMEs that meet the criteria to exhibit their products at the Center for Entrepreneurship booth during the Community Service Festival on December 10-12, 2024. This event is part of the celebration of UGM’s 75th anniversary (15th Lustrum) at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Hall.

“Two MSMEs have gone through the curation process: Ulu Belu and Asiyah Craft. Ulu Belu produces innovative and healthy products from beneng taro leaves and other organic agro-industrial products, while Asiyah Craft offers food-grade wooden utensils and cutlery,” Risa explained.

Risa expressed her hope that this program would serve as a solution to improve MSMEs’ readiness for digital transformation. “This initiative aims to provide insights on the role of technology for MSMEs as an effective method to increase sales and streamline business management,” she concluded.
