The Grade Point (IP) is a measure of student academic achievement that is calculated based on the grades obtained in each course. Grade Point (IP) reflects the quality and consistency of students’ academic performance over a semester. The calculation of the Grade Point (IP) uses the following formula.
Based on UGM Rector Regulation Number 23 of 2024 regarding Education Article 40 paragraph 2, letter grades are converted to grade points to calculate the GPA with the following provisions.
- letter A is equivalent to the number 4 (four);
- letter A- equivalent to the number 3.75 (three point seventy-five);
- letter A/B equivalent to the number 3.5 (three point five);
- letter B+ is equivalent to the number 3.25 (three point twenty-five);
- letter B is equivalent to the number 3 (three);
- letter B- equivalent to the number 2.75 (two point seventy-five)
- letter B/C equivalent to the number 2.50 (two point fifty)
- letter C+ is equivalent to the number 2.25 (two point twenty-five)
- letter C is equivalent to the number 2 (two);
- letter C- is equivalent to the number 1.75 (one point seventy-five)
- letter C/D equivalent to the number 1.5 (one point five)
- letter D+ is equivalent to the number 1.25 (one point twenty-five)
- letter D is equivalent to the number 1 (one); or
- letter E is equivalent to the number 0 (zero).
The following table shows the new provisions for the Assessment of Learning Outcomes in the form of letters and numbers that are used as references.
Letter Grade | A | A- | A/B | B+ | B | B- | B/C | C+ | C | C- | C/D | D+ | D | E |
Grade Points | 4 | 3,75 | 3,5 | 3,25 | 3 | 2,75 | 2,5 | 2,25 | 2 | 1,75 | 1,5 | 1,25 | 1 | 0 |
Range of Scores | 100-90 | 89,9-85 | 84,9-80 | 79,9-75 | 74,9-70 | 69,9-65 | 64,9-60 | 59,9-55 | 54,9-50 | 49,9-45 | 44,9-40 | 39,9-35 | 34,9-30 | 29,9-0 |
Example:
In a semester, a student takes 6 courses with the following grade results.
Course | Grade | Credit | G x C | Total |
Course 1 | A | 3 | 4 x 3 | 12 |
Course 2 | B- | 3 | 2,75 x 3 | 8,25 |
Course 3 | B+ | 3 | 3,25 x 3 | 9,75 |
Course 4 | C | 3 | 2 x 3 | 6 |
Course 5 | D | 3 | 1 x 3 | 3 |
Course 6 | E | 3 | 0 x 3 | 0 |
Total | 18 | 39 |
Number of credits taken 6 x 3 = 18. Grade Point (IP) = 39 / 18 = 2,16
Grade Point Average (GPA)
The Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated in the same way as the Semester Grade Point Average. GPA is the average result of all grades from the beginning to a certain semester. Parents or students’ guardians can access students’ study results through Simaster for Parents at the following link https://simaster.ugm.ac.id/aktivasiwali. The access guidelines can be seen through the following link https://ugm.id/PanduanSIMASTEROrangTua.
The minimum GPA required for thesis writing, thesis defense examination, and graduation is 2.50 (referring to the final assignment provisions chapter and the final exam provisions chapter). All courses taken in the Undergraduate Program (S1) at FEB UGM are used to calculate the Grade Point Average (GPA) and included in the academic transcript. The courses taken in a partner university abroad, as long as they can be transferred, will be included in the academic transcript (based on the recommendation from the Head of the Study Program). If a student has a cumulative number of credits that exceeds the provisions (more than 151/152 credits), all compulsory courses obtained from credit transfer or studying at FEB UGM cannot be deleted from the academic transcript. However, students can submit a request not to consider the elective courses in the GPA calculation through the Head of the Undergraduate Study Program in each department if the elective courses taken exceed the Undergraduate Study curriculum provisions. This procedure can be carried out by students when they have completed and are declared to have passed the exam(s) with the following details.
- Accounting International Undergraduate Program (IUP) students and Regular Accounting Program Students: thesis exam and Computer-Based Comprehensive Examination (UKBK) or thesis exam and comprehensive exam if they have failed UKBK three times.
- Economics International Undergraduate Program (IUP) Students and Regular Economics Program Studies: thesis examination
- Management International Undergraduate Program (IUP) Students and Regular Management Program Studies: thesis examination and comprehensive examination.
