The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), held a workshop on the use of artificial intelligence for learning with the participation of several lecturers on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. The event was held at the Kertanegara Room. It featured two keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Ir. Ridi Ferdiana, S.T., M.T., an information technology expert from the Faculty of Engineering UGM, and Gunawan Wibisono, S.E., M.Acc., CA., a lecturer from the Department of Accounting, FEB UGM.

The workshop was opened by Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at FEB UGM, who emphasized the importance of understanding and using AI in education. According to him, AI has great potential to enhance the effectiveness of the learning process if used wisely and within appropriate boundaries.

In the first session, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ridi Ferdiana, S.T., M.T., discussed the application of artificial intelligence in education and teaching. He emphasized that AI has become essential in learning as it can be used to complete assignments, understand lecture materials, write academic papers, and validate teaching methods.

Meanwhile, Gunawan Wibisono, S.E., M.Acc., CA. presented on AI for learning in economics and business. AI in this field is used to develop lecture materials, create questions and assignments, evaluate student work, and provide feedback in academic advising. He also pointed out various challenges in using AI, including algorithmic bias. According to him, AI is like a double-edged sword – it can make tasks more manageable, but its use still needs monitoring and regulation.

In addition to the role of AI in education, the workshop also explored its application in research and academic publishing. AI can help design research frameworks, identify relevant datasets, perform data analysis, and even assist with publications in academic journals. In addition, universities have started using AI to create educational videos as student study summaries.

This workshop represents a concrete step by FEB UGM to adapt AI technology to support teaching and research while maintaining ethical standards and limitations. Through this event, it is hoped that faculty and academic staff will be better prepared to navigate technological advances in education and business.
