A team of students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), has won first place in the Blu by BCA x Petrolida Business Case Competition 2025. The competition was organized by the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya, taking place from March to May 2025.
The Dolphin Group team, consisting of Vittorio Valero, Salim S1 Management 2022, Gustav Susanto, S1 Management 2022 (Regular), and Annisa Sastro Diyono, S1 Dentistry 2022 (IUP), managed to beat 37 other teams from various universities in Indonesia, the Netherlands, and Taiwan. The final of this competition took place on May 16, 2025, at the ITS Research Center.
Vittorio explained that in the competition, they had to go through three stages of selection. At the preliminary stage, each team was asked to make an executive summary to solve problems from BP Consulting related to the expansion strategy of a new business line from a fictitious company that wanted to penetrate the B2C market.
Next, in the semifinals, the team was presented with a case study of Blu by BCA Digital. The main challenge was making Blu the leading financial management tool for students. At this stage, he and the team found that Blu was still not significantly superior to its competitors, so a sharp strategy was needed to improve Blu’s positioning in the market. By considering the consumer behavior of students and aligning the solution with BCA Group’s vision, the team developed a comprehensive strategic proposal. In the final, the proposal was presented to the judges.
Vittorio revealed that his team faced challenges managing time to participate in the competition amidst their busy academic and organizational schedules. Another challenge arose at the presentation stage, which demanded maximum performance in a limited time. During the preparation process, the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM, especially through the Career and Student Development Unit (CSDU), also provided support in the form of public speaking training.
“We are delighted because all our effort and time finally paid off. This proves that our hard work is not in vain,” said Vittorio.
