The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) received another good news. On Saturday (28/10), the Booster Consulting Team won first place in the Outstanding Problem-Solving category in the national Sebelas Maret Business Case Competition (SMBCC) 2023. This team comprises three 2020 Management students: Afan Husein Julian, Ridha Rayan Furqan, and Ahsan Muktafi. This achievement aligns with Sustainable Development Goal No. 4, namely Quality Education. SMBCC is one of a series of Management Carnival 2023 events organized by the Management Department Student Association (HMJM) at Sebelas Maret University. With the theme "Plethora of Opportunities and Challenges: Delve into the Challenges that Businesses Face in the Digital Era", SMBCC 2023 invites students to find adaptive and innovative solutions in business activities, especially the Digital Economy, to face existing challenges and opportunities.
This competition consists of three stages, including the preliminary, semifinal, and final round, from 8 September to 28 October 2023. After going through a series of steps, the Booster Consulting Team was selected to be one of eleven teams entitled to continue the competition to the final round. In the final round, they faced two main problems from PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA). They were asked to provide solutions to increase the service life of mining vehicle tires and increase the efficiency of mining vehicle fuel consumption. "During a company visit, our solution was appreciated by the jury because it was considered to have a unique and interesting strategy recommendation approach," said Rayan, the team leader.
In the final round, the case obtained was regarding the marketing of the Grab company. “The business recommendation had to be completed in just 24 hours at the hotel where we were staying,” Rayan recalled working on the case. The Booster Consulting team uses the entity journey to approach the business solutions they create. The solutions they offer also received appreciation from the juries for their precise market analysis that reflected Grab's data. The strategy they developed was also considered very detailed and pleasing. This solution is considered feasible to be implemented in the real world.
According to the Booster Consulting Team, this competition is one of the most challenging business case competitions they have ever participated in. This is because one of the business cases they received was heavily involved in engineering disciplines, while their educational background was in management, closely related to economics. Comprehensive business solution analysis and receiving a lot of appreciation brought the Booster Consulting Team to win 1st place in Outstanding Problem Solving, the category with the highest prize. Thanks to serious struggle, the Booster Team defeated 11 delegation teams from various universities in Indonesia who qualified for the final round.
FEB UGM congratulates the Booster Consulting Team for their brilliant achievement!
