The Faculty of Economics and Business UGM student team won the title of 3rd in the 2024 Deloitte Tax Challenge competition. This prestigious competition in the field of taxation on February 16, 2024 at the Deloitte Indonesia Office was attended by 40 teams from various universities in Indonesia. Some of them include UGM, ITB, UI, Binus and others.

The FEB UGM team consisting of Accounting Study Program students, namely Marcheline Natasya Santoso (Accounting 2021), Jasmine Iliyya (Accounting 2021), Evan Timothy Hotan Togatorop (Accounting 2021), and Paterno Krinara Setiael (Accounting 2021), won third place after going through a series of pretty strict selections. In the initial stage, the selection was carried out by assessing the video sent by each team containing the community's priorities, promises and hopes regarding taxation in the 2024 presidential election.

Next, the top 16 best were entitled to advance to the semifinal round, where they were challenged to complete three cases related to implementing sugar tax, transfer pricing, and tax transactions for permanent establishments to present them online. Then, the six best teams advanced to the final round, where each team was asked to answer two cases provided by Deloitte.

"In the first case, each team was asked to answer cases related to problems and requirements for implementing transfer pricing in a company. "In the second case, each team was asked to assess whether the practices implemented by the company, in this case, were by BEPS Action 6," explained Marcheline when contacted Tuesday (2/4).

Also participating were three lecturers from the Accounting Department who were the team's supervisors, namely Achmad Mashhadul Amin, S.E., M.Sc., Aldiena Bunga Fadhila, S.E., M.Sc., and Annisa Hayatun Nazmi Burhan, S.E., M.Sc.

Marcheline said he and the team gained much experience participating in this competition. This competition will sharpen the sharpness of thinking and analysis, especially in taxation. "We feel grateful because our efforts were not in vain. Hopefully, this will be achieved. Hopefully, it will inspire and motivate other FEB students. "In the future, we will try to find other competitions to hone our analytical skills further," he concluded.
