The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), is again organizing the Global Summer Week (GSW), which will take place from July 14 to July 25, 2025. Dozens of students from various countries around the world will participate in this event, which is held in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and the University of Canterbury (UC), New Zealand.

This year’s program will bring together more than 60 students from 10 universities across 11 countries. Some of the participating universities include the University of Canterbury, Copenhagen Business School, University of Brunei Darussalam, University of Glasgow, Kyoto University, Nanyang Technological University, University of Sussex, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Universitas Negeri Surabaya.

Gunawan (B.Sc., M.Sc., Dipl.Stat.Ec., Ph.D.), Chair of GSW 2025, explained that GSW is an annual programme since 2014. Designed as a platform for cross-cultural learning and global collaboration, this two-week summer programme has been running for seven years. This year, GSW carries the theme “Innovative Business Models for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future,” aiming to nurture future global leaders and offering participants the opportunity to explore innovative business models while engaging in an intercultural learning environment.

“GSW 2025 focuses on sustainability, inclusivity, and entrepreneurship. The program is designed to equip students with fundamental knowledge in these areas. In addition, it provides an opportunity for students to hone their entrepreneurial skills by developing sustainable business ideas,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amanda Acintya, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. AFHEA, Vice Chair of GSW 2025, added that the program fosters innovation, leadership, and cross-cultural understanding. It also offers an inspiring learning experience through lectures, real-world projects, company visits, cultural activities, and plenty of opportunities to build global connections.

“We hope this experience will not only broaden participants’ academic and professional horizons but also create memorable moments during their stay in Yogyakarta,” she said.

GSW 2025 features activities, including Expert-led Talks & Discussions with industry experts and practitioners, Business Immersion & Summer Project where students apply their knowledge in social entrepreneurship projects, and various cultural activities. This two-week summer program is equivalent to 3 credits (5 ECTS) and will be held entirely in Yogyakarta.

The lectures will be divided into the following four groups: Foundations of Sustainable and Inclusive Business, Creating Social Business Opportunities, Circular and Collaborative Economy, and Innovation, Technology and Practical Skills. Participants will also join a Design Thinking workshop on applying and refining design thinking approaches to tackle complex social challenges.
