The Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), through the Career and Student Development Unit (CSDU), once again organized a Psychological First Aid (PFA) training for FEB UGM students. The training aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to provide initial psychological support to individuals experiencing crises.
CSDU FEB UGM psychologist, Anisa Yuliandri, M.Psi., Psikolog, explained that Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a first-response approach for individuals experiencing psychological distress and needing support. Anyone can use this approach without professional competence to prevent a person’s psychological condition from worsening before receiving further professional assistance.
There are three main steps in PFA. First, observing the environment and identifying individuals who may need help. Second, actively listening without forcing the individual to speak. Third, helping address problems and connecting the individual to the support they need.
“The three main steps in PFA are Look, Listen, and Link,” said Anisa on Thursday (5/3/2025) at the Alumni Corner Room, FEB UGM.
Anisa also encouraged participants to develop empathy and to recognize actions to avoid when providing PFA. These include not disclosing confidential information, not judging, not interrupting, and not rushing to provide solutions.
Participants also received an introduction to the various mental health support services available at Universitas Gadjah Mada. These include psychological services at the CSDU FEB UGM, the Psychological Consultation Unit of the UGM Faculty of Psychology, and the Gadjah Mada Medical Centre (GMC).
