The Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University (FEB UGM) held a workshop entitled ‘The Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Research’ on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, in the FEB UGM Multimedia Room. This event aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the use of AI in supporting various research activities for students and lecturers.
The workshop also aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the ethics of using AI in research, equip participants with practical skills for reviewing literature and writing scientific articles, and train them in the use of AI in data analysis. Through this activity, FEB UGM encourages lecturers and students to be more productive in producing high-quality scientific work while upholding academic integrity.
The Dean of FEB UGM, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, M.Com., Ak., CA., in his speech at the event’s opening, emphasized the importance of maintaining academic integrity amid the rapid development of AI technology, which is widely used to support the research process. According to him, the line between human creativity and AI contributions is now increasingly blurred. Therefore, the academic community needs to understand well how to use AI assistance responsibly.
“The academic community needs to understand and learn so that when writing scientific papers, they do not get caught up in integrity issues that they are unaware of,” he said on Wednesday (15/10/2025).
Furthermore, Didi explained that AI can simplify and accelerate the research process, but it should not replace the role of humans. He provided an example showing that, in the literature review stage, AI can help identify abstracts and references more quickly than manual methods. Additionally, in the data analysis stage, AI now offers various tools that simplify data processing through straightforward commands (prompts).
The workshop featured three expert speakers from UGM. UGM Faculty of Engineering lecturer and information systems and AI expert, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ridi Ferdiana, S.T., M.T., discussed the Ethics of AI Use in Research. Then, Gunawan Wibisono, S.E., M.Acc., CA., a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UGM, discussed strategies for Literature Review and Paper Writing, and Gigih Fitrianto, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., presented a session on Data Analysis with AI.
During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to discuss the challenges they faced in developing AI-based research content. This activity was designed to enhance the understanding of lecturers, researchers, and students regarding the ethical aspects of AI use, strengthen practical skills in data processing, and promote the improvement of the quality of scientific work produced.
