Technological advancements are reshaping the landscape of life, including the future of the accounting profession. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and increasing geo-economic fragmentation signal the need for aspiring accountants to adapt to the growing complexity of global dynamics swiftly.
This message was conveyed by Afif Alfarizi, Business Relationship Manager of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Indonesia, during the ACCA University Info Session 2025 held at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) on Thursday (October 23, 2025) at the Learning Center Auditorium, FEB UGM. The event carried the theme “Accounting Beyond Borders: Global Trade and Tax for Future Finance Leaders.”
Afif also highlighted the importance of ethics and taxation, presenting findings from ACCA’s public report that emphasized society’s perception of tax as a form of social contribution rather than a financial burden.
“Taxpayers need to feel that tax is a contribution to society, not a personal burden,” he explained.
During the session, Afif elaborated on the ACCA Qualification Pathway, which comprises three main pillars: exams that assess knowledge, skills, and professionalism; relevant work experience; and ethics and professional conduct. He also introduced a special program for UGM students, ACCA IDNP: Degree+, which enables students to earn a Diploma in Accounting and Business and a Foundations in Professionalism Certificate alongside their undergraduate studies.
The program also provides access to the Ethics and Professional Skills Module, equipping students with the skills necessary for ethical awareness, personal effectiveness, and professional communication. This programme offers affordable fees and a structured learning system to prepare students to become moral and globally competent accountants.
Julia Simatupang, Country Manager of ACCA Indonesia, also delivered a brief message to the students, underscoring the importance of utilizing the collaboration between the university and ACCA as a platform for self-development.
“We continue to support the accounting profession. Start thinking about your goals and make the most of the partnerships already available on campus. Be more advanced in understanding what you can learn from the programs offered,” Julia advised.
