Currently, the world is becoming more integrated. Going global is not a thing to be avoided, moreover dreaded. Becoming global is the thing that should have been done, especially by college students. As one of the best business school in the world, the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) has four pillars to accommodate it, academic excellence, soft skill, internationalization, and networking.
The Ambassador Talk The Walk (6/10) at FEB UGM discussed things related with being global. The speakers were, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), H.E. Mr. Salman al Farisi and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Russia and Belarus, H.E. Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun. Both were graduated from FEB UGM who involved in the field of international diplomacy. Both agreed that economic graduates had possibility to becoming diplomat. “The diplomacy field is not as hard as econometrics,” quipped Salman.
As a diplomat, they must also be able to see the potential owned by the state where they assigned. In addition, they also must be able to see the opportunities. It was done in order to have the cooperation between the two countries, Indonesia and the UAE or Indonesia and Russia. “We are surrounded by opportunities,” said Djauhari.
In addition, the two speakers also motivated students not to be afraid of globalization and also ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. Djauhari stressed that Indonesia was great nation so that there was nothing to fear. Salman suggested that students needed to learn international language seriously in order to become more confidence. Either way, communication was the major key in international interaction.
