Academix Culture 2024

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) has once again organized AcadeMix Culture as part of its welcome for new students. This event, which will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Pancoh Tourism Village, Turi District, Sleman Regency, aims to familiarize students with the culture of Yogyakarta while developing their leadership skills.

The Director of the MBA FEB UGM Yogyakarta Campus, Prof. Amin Wibowo, S.E., M.B.A., Ph.D., explained that AcadeMix Culture is a regular activity designed for new students to introduce them to Indonesian culture, especially that of Yogyakarta.

“Through this activity, students are expected to learn about local culture and wisdom directly,” he said on Saturday, August 10.

This year’s AcadeMix Culture was attended by 22 students, including 14 international students participating in student exchange and dual degree programs for Fall 2024 and 8 Indonesian students enrolled in the International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) program, Class of 1984. The students were introduced to Indonesian culture, including learning to make batik, traditional songs, and playing traditional musical instruments such as gamelan, angklung, and tambourine.

In addition, through AcadeMix Culture, participants visited a culinary MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) that produces cakes made from salak fruit. During this visit, participants could observe the production process from start to finish.

One of the AcadeMix Culture participants, Anne Juliette, from a partner university in France, expressed her admiration for the event. She noted that it helped her gain a deeper understanding of the local culture, which she hopes will help her adapt more quickly to the local community and campus environment.

“AcadeMix Culture helped me understand the local culture a lot. We saw many things firsthand, and it was fun to learn about the culture and life of the residents,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Alifia mentioned that through AcadeMix Culture, she learned about teamwork and working with people from different cultural backgrounds. She noted that this experience would be beneficial during her studies as it would help her communicate and collaborate with classmates from other countries.

AcadeMix Culture is a regular program organized twice a year by the UGM MBA program as part of the new student orientation. This event was attended by 22 students from several countries, including Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Indonesia, France and Switzerland.
