Ketoprak

To celebrate the 69th Anniversary, the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) held a unique ketoprak art performance titled Labuhan Katresnan. This ketoprak show was distinct from typical performances as it featured a diverse group of performers, including the dean, vice deans, faculty members, and staff of FEB UGM who formed the Dokar ketoprak group.

The performance, held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, starting at 7:00 PM WIB, was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the audience. Hundreds of folding chairs and bean bags set up by the Family Fun Evening (FFE) committee were fully occupied. The audience, consisting of faculty, students, alumni, professional staff and their families, eagerly awaited the start of the Ketoprak show and were captivated by the unique performance.

Labuhan Katresnan tells the love story of Galuh Candra Kirana from the Kediri Kingdom and Panji Asmoro Bangun from the Jenggala Kingdom. This ketoprak performance had 24 supporting actors, directed by Martono & Dandun H.W., and accompanied by the enchanting music of the Sekar Laras group from FEB UGM, which added a traditional and authentic touch to the performance.

In this performance, the story of Galuh Candra Kirana, who was exiled from Kediri and had to go on a journey to be reunited with Panji Asmara Bangun, was presented in a light-hearted dialog. Although the message was serious, the Ketoprak was presented in a relaxed atmosphere with humorous interludes that entertained the audience.

Prof. Dr. Basu Swastha Dharmmesta, M.B.A., a retired lecturer involved in the performance, explained that Labuhan Katresnan tells the story of true love that remains unbreakable despite various challenges. “Through this ketoprak performance, we want to convey a message about loyalty,” he said.

Basu continued that the message embedded in the ketoprak is meant for the entire academic community and professional staff of FEB UGM. He explained that loyalty is built through experience, trust, and positive perception. It is hoped that through this performance, all members of FEB UGM can remain loyal and support the development of the faculty.

Basu explained that the Ketoprak performance is part of FEB UGM’s efforts to preserve traditional arts and culture. The Ketoprak performance also aims to rekindle the younger generation’s interest in traditional arts. “The Ketoprak performance is an important moment to preserve culture and traditional arts,” he said.
