Meet The Editor

The Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), hosted the Meet the Editors Workshop under Contemporary Issues in Business & Economics Research. Held on November 29, 2024, the workshop aimed to provide academics and researchers with insights into current business and economics issues and strategies for publishing research in international journals.

The event featured two keynote speakers: Dr. Siwage Dharma Negara from the Journal of Southeast Asian Economies (JSEAE) – Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore, and Prof. T. Ramayah from Journal of Applied Structural Equation Modeling (JASEM) – Universiti Sains Malaysia. Dr. Siwage highlighted various global issues impacting business and economic dynamics, particularly in Southeast Asia. Key topics included the effects of globalization, technological competition such as chip wars, and adopting strategies like nearshoring and friend-shoring to strengthen supply chain resilience.

Dr. Siwage also addressed the challenges of transitioning toward a green economy in response to climate change, including efforts to align economic policies with sustainability goals. He emphasized the acceleration of digitalization and its implications for the financial, governmental, and industrial sectors. Additionally, he underlined the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the adoption of robust methodologies to produce impactful and high-quality research.

Meanwhile, Prof. T. Ramayah delivered a session titled New Developments in Quantitative Survey Research: From Theory to Measurement and Data Collection. He stressed the significance of theory as the foundation of research and the development of conceptual frameworks and hypotheses based on relevant theories. He also elaborated on the importance of research contributions, whether conceptual, empirical, or methodological.

Prof. Ramayah provided practical guidance for improving research validity, such as using multiple-item measures to minimize method bias. He also discussed challenges in the publication process, including rejections due to weak methodologies, and offered strategies to enhance the acceptance of research in high-impact journals.

This workshop gave participants valuable insights into understanding global issues, improving research methodologies, and strengthening scholarly contributions. It also served as a platform for dialogue between academics and practitioners, fostering collaboration opportunities to address the ever-evolving challenges in business and economics.
