Due to the widespread impact of natural disasters the eruption of Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta, the academic activities on Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada are closed temporarily, start from today (Friday, 05/11) until November 13th, 2010 and will be open again on Monday, November 15th, 2010.

On Wednesday (27/10), FEB UGM visited by Regional Office of Directorate General of Taxation (Kanwil DJP) DIY, led by the Chief of Kanwil DJP DIY Djangkung Sudjarwadi. This visit as a part of celebrating Tax Socialization day on Oct 28, 2010, to obtain feedback from taxpayers about DHP’s service so far. This feedback will be used as a reference for a national tax policy making.
Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM Prof. Dr. Marwan Asri, MBA, on their meeting, supports DJP DIY’s efforts to change taxation service towards taxpayer in order to raise the tax ratio as one of a source of state financing.
One of that effort is changing tax officer image to be more friendly to the taxpayers. Make themselves to become taxpayer’s best friend than enemy, so that can encourage the taxpayer to fulfill their obligation to pay the tax without any hesitation.
Prof. Marwan Asri pointed out, that in America tax officer called the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), more feared than the police. "Over there, people are more afraid if their wanted by the IRS, than if he was wanted by the police," he said.
In a meeting that lasted for an hour, Djangkung Sudjarwadi stated that DIY is a province that has the highest level of compliance for submitting Annual Tax Announcement Report (SPT). "DIY’s level of compliance for submitting Annual Tax Announcement Report (SPT) is the highest two years in a row nationally" he said.

During this month, FEB UGM were visited by 3 foreign universities.
First visit was representatives from Saxion University of Applied Sciences, the Netherland, which was on October 5, 2010. They had a meeting with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research and Community Services, Dr. B.M. Purwanto, MBA. The aim of this meeting was to discuss about the possibilities of cooperation. On November 2010, another representative from Saxion University of Applied Sciences are going to visit FEB UGM to further discuss of an agreement.
On October 13, 2010, delegations from ESC Rennes School of Business and University of Rennes , initiated by Campus France Jakarta, visited FEB UGM. They introduced the program at ESC Rennes School of Business to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research and Community Service, Dr. B.M. Purwanto, M.B.A., & Vice Dean for Students, Alumni, Cooperation, & Business Development, Prof. Dr. Drs. Wihana Kirana Jaya, M.Soc.Sc. At the meeting, it was also discussed about the possibility to set up a cooperation between FEB GUM and ESC Rennes School of Business, especially on student exchange in bachelor and master level, and joint research program.
The last visit was from University of Queensland, Australia. There were two activities from these delegations. First was the Guest Lecture: Poverty Reduction through Economic Policies, delivered by Dr. Fabrizio Carmignani, senior lecturer from University of Queensland. More than 50 students of undergraduate and postgraduate program attended the lecture.
At the same time, Ms. Rumi Goto, Liaison Officer of Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL), University of Queensland, gave a presentation to the students of International Undergraduate Program FEB UGM about Double Degree Program in UQ.
This series of international visit shows that FEB UGM continue to widen their cooperation and networking to meet the international challenge.

Journal of Indonesian Economy and Business (JIEB) Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Gadjah Mada held Best Paper Award 2010. Activities that have been conducted since 1986 aims to increase interest in writing, and improved quality of articles in scientific journals. According to Musytaqul Hasan (committee / student of Management FEB UGM) "Starting 2009 scientific journals that published, has led to the internationalization effort, so many that already use English in their writing," Taqul said at Seminar on Best Paper Award at the Quality Hotel on Saturday (16/10).
He added that, JIEB Universitas Gadjah Mada is accredited journals and has been internationalized by grant funding from the Directorate General of Higher Education. It could be says that JIEB is a leading Indonesian economics and business journals.
For this Best Paper Award 2010, Taqul says, there were 26 participants articles. Eleven articles aren’t feasible to be published by JIEB, among 15 articles that published in JIEB, 5 articles included in the award nominations. "From 5 nominees, we choose best three articles and two favourite articles," he said.
Best paper award selection process started by articles collection on July until August. After that, on August until September are evaluation process by the jury. Team of judges consisting of Universitas Gadjah Mada professors,such as Prof. Mudrajad Kuncoro, Ph.D., Prof. Lincolin Arsyad, Ph.D., and Prof. Catur Sugiyanto, Ph.D. Aspects of assessment including article title, abstract, problem formulation, assessment methods, findings, reference, and presentation systematics. "In the future all of the winners articles will be published on 2011 JIEB " he added.
Most of the participant articles are come from state-owned university (73%), then outward university (15%), department / government institutions (8%), and then local private University (4%). Meanwhile, the percentage of topics for the article, mostly about management (46%), then economics (39%), and accounting (15%).
Best paper award goes to First winner, Yudhisthira Hendra Permana, SE from UGM "Application of the Rule of Law by Jurisdiction Case System on Illegal Logging in Indonesia 2002-2008" , Second winner, Devanto Pratomo, Ph.D. from Brawijaya University "The Effects of Changes in the Minimum Wage on Employment in the Covered and Uncovered Sectors In Indonesia ", Third winner Nur Arifatul Ulya, S . Hut., MA from Ministry of Forestry, “The impact of Reddi on Institutions Income: a Social Accounting Matrix Approach ".
Next, 1st favourite articles goes to, Sekar Utami Setiastuti, SE from UGM "Meteor Shower Glancing over Indonesia: Volatility Spilovers From a Major Stock Market to Indonesian Stock Market and Currency", and 2nd favourite article are written by Mayanggita Kirana, SE, and Dr. Samsubar Saleh, M.Soc.Sc. from UGM "Public Sector Efficiency Measurement Indonesia (Period of Fiscal Decentralization, 2001 -2008)”. All the winner receive an award plaque, their article will be published on JIEB international, and some money.

As the top event to close the celebration of 55th anniversary of FEB UGM, Great Art Performance titled "Discover Indonesia: Green, Blue & Genuine" held at Grha Sabha Pramana UGM on Sunday (09/26).This title selected to describe exploration of Indonesian Archipelago, love for the environment, God, others, and the genuine of copyrighted works.
According to the theme, this art performance not only show the latest single from welknown singer but also the typical folk songs from Sumatra to Papua packed in an ethnic jazz orchestra. This performance involves no less than 100 performer, consists of domestic and foreign artists, musicians,UGM students, FEB UGM alumni and ISI Yogyakarta students.
This event opened by the World Peace Orchestra (WPO) conducted by Dwiki Dharmawan. Beautiful collaboration, between WPO, Gadjah Mada University student choir (PSM UGM) and ISI Ethnic successfully amazed no less than 2700 audience that night. Another solid collaboration over generation of FEB UGM, PSM UGM and foreign musicians Philippe Chiminato also captivate the audience.
A big applause sounded over and over to appreciate the performance of all artists and musicians. There were also a talented young artist, Andien, in collaboration with American saxophonist Andy Suzuki, riveting the audience with 2 songs 'Angin Mamiri' and 'Moving On', as her new single. Followed by great collaboration of ISI Ethnic, an Australian guitarist Guy Strazz, Australian bassist Hugh Fraser, American saxophonist Andy Suzuki, and Flores singers and musicians Ivan Nestorman, perform a beautiful song called 'Kakorlalong'.
The show is not over yet, another young Indonesian Jazz singer, Dira J Sugandhi open the ethnic session together with some foreign musicians perform 2 songs 'Mayfallie' and 'Lamalera's Dream'. Continue with Java Ethnic Medley and Balinese dance by Balinese Dance Unit UGM titled Sound Peace of Bali. From Bali goes to Papua, as Ivan Nestorman back to perform its traditional song “E Mambo”. By the end of this session Andien performed one of her hit song called, “Gemintang”.
Performance from Indonesian Jazz singer who became German Idol 2007 finalists, Sandy Sandhoro dazzle the audience at the half part of this event. That night, Sandy perform his 3 hits: 'End of the Rainbow', 'Over My Shoulder', and 'Malam Biru'. Event closed with instrumental music Arafura and Dira Sugandhi perform a song, 'Dzikir Tak Putus-putusnya'.
As The art performance over, all series of events to celebrate the 55th anniversary FEB UGM, already fulfilled. Congratulation to FEB UGM for the Annivesary, all the best wishes.
