Prof. Sri Adiningsih, Ph.D., M.Sc., Passed Away

The big family of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University (FEB UGM), is grieving because one of its best professors, Prof. Sri Adiningsih, Ph.D., M.Sc., has passed away. She is a lecturer at FEB UGM and an accomplished Indonesian female leader and economist. Prof. Sri breathed her last at Dr. Sardjito Hospital on Saturday, 17 June 2023, at 18.37 WIB at the age of 62. The funeral will be held on Sunday, 18 June 2023, at the Mount Sempu Hills Memorial Park cemetery, Yogyakarta. She left her husband, dr. Kunta Setiaji, SpB.Subsp.Onk(K), and a child named Stri Nariswari Setiaji.

Prof. Sri is an Economics and Development Studies program graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Business, UGM. In 1989, she completed her Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States. At the same university, she earned a doctorate in economics. After receiving this degree, Prof. Sri Adiningsih continued her career as a lecturer and researcher at UGM. She taught several courses at FEB UGM, including Indonesian Economics, Macroeconomics, Banks and Financial Institutions, and Monetary Economics Workshop. She was also entrusted with serving as Head of the Center for Asia Pacific Economic Studies UGM. She was appointed as a professor at UGM in 2012. Then, she was entrusted with becoming Chair of the Management of Economics and Business Research and Training (P2EB) FEB UGM in 2014.

Prof. Sri Adiningsih also made many achievements outside UGM. She was trusted as an adviser/principal economist at Exim Securities in 1997, a member of the expert team on the preparation of GBHN material for the National Defense and Security Agency in 1998, and a member of the IBRA Ombudsman since 1999. She was also appointed as a member of the Expert Team for the MPR Ad Hoc Committee in 2001 and then was elected as Secretary of the Constitutional Commission. She is also actively involved as a member of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI) and the Founder of the Institute of Social Economics & Digital (ISED). From 2014-2019, she was appointed by President Joko Widodo to be Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) in President Joko Widodo’s first term.

She has received various awards and achievements, including the 35 Years of Loyalty award from UGM in 2021 and Satyalancana Karya Satya XXX from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019. She has also published many journal articles and books on economics. Prof. Sri Adiningsih made many contributions to UGM, especially to the Faculty of Economics and Business. Her colleagues and students know her as a friendly, caring, and fun person. The FEB UGM academic community feels deep sorrow over her passing. May the deceased be forgiven for all her sins, accept her good deeds, and get the best place at His side. Goodbye, Prof. Sri Adiningsih. We will never forget all your memories and services.
