Maximos’ Story, FEB UGM Student Starts FnB Business from Zero

Maximos Antares Godeliva

Studying while being an entrepreneur, why not? One of them is Maximos Antares Godeliva (22), Management 2022, who started a business at a young age.

This undergraduate student from the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM started an FnB (Food and Beverage) business, namely a Sweet and Spicy Grilled Chicken restaurant with the name “Dua Tuan Muda” from scratch. Starting a business without a solid background and experience in this field is certainly not easy. However, with determination, strong desire, and continuing to learn from his mistakes, Maximos succeeded in developing his new business, which he started around February 2024.

Even though he is still young, the business run by Maximos can generate a turnover of around IDR 50 million every month. The net profit earned by students from the class of 2020 can reach IDR 15 million monthly.

“Praise to God, during these two months, our average turnover has been around 50 million with a net profit of around 15 million,” he said Tuesday (7/5).

Maximos said that he runs the Two Young Masters business together with his close friend, Satria Handar Pratista, who is a UGM Civil Engineering student (Civil Engineering 2020). Before getting involved in the FnB business, this man who was born in Yogyakarta, December 17 2001, actually ran a business in the fashion sector which is still running today. He runs a vintage thrift store business that sells used clothes with high resale value called StatuzzQuo. Meanwhile, Satria previously also had a turtle buying and selling business called TortoGarage, but is currently no longer operating.

“We both shared that we want to run an FnB business. “Because both of us had never been in the FnB business, we decided to partner in entering the world of FnB,” he explained.

After quite a lengthy discussion, the two of them finally saw the great potential of the grilled chicken business. Next, ideas and business models emerge that are pretty interesting and realistic to realize, even though they have no experience in that field.

So why did Maximos choose the grilled chicken business? The reason was quite simple. First, they want to sell products that are easy to learn and understand the ins and outs of. The reason is, both of them have absolutely no experience in the FnB sector so they try to take as little risk as possible in selecting the products to sell. Second, they chose grilled chicken because the market demand for this product is relatively large and not difficult to reach. They realize that this business has good peasy and also understand that this business is quite easy to imitate, there are many competitors, and there is a ceiling price that has been formed so that the price offered to consumers cannot exceed the existing ceiling price. Third, they want to sell simple products, but the packaging potential is still wide open to be explored and developed.

“Therefore, the business model that we have developed is how we elevate the way our consumers enjoy our sweet and spicy grilled chicken products,” he said.

Maximos revealed that when he first started building the sweet and spicy grilled chicken business, Dua Tuan Muda had a capital of IDR 100 million. They encountered many challenges and problems when they first started running this business. Even when the business had only been running for 1.5 months, it almost went bankrupt due to issues with operational activities, high HR turnover, management, and complex bureaucratic matters. However, thanks to persistence, communication, compromise, and an approach with business knowledge obtained in college, the existing problems were finally resolved one by one.

“The key to doing business is how you look at the business. If you only focus on money and profits, your business will be far from sustainable. Therefore, think big to become big,” he said.

The Dua Tuan Muda restaurant, which two young students started, offers concepts, tastes, and initiatives. These two things differentiate Dua Tuan Muda’s grilled chicken products from other grilled chickens.

“Dua Tuan Muda is a new and fresh business model for the grilled chicken FnB business in Jogja. We don’t just sell grilled chicken, but there are many things you can enjoy at our stall,” he stressed.

Dua Tuan Muda restaurant is in a strategic and comfortable area to visit, precisely on Jl. Sidomukti, Tiyosan, Condongcatur, District. Depok, Sleman Regency, DIY. Not only that, when entering the restaurant, visitors can immediately enjoy selected music that creates a cosy ambience. The menu served, with drinks, side dishes, and desserts, is made with all my heart.

“We think everything through carefully and we don’t consider it a side menu so that all the food we serve is truly conceptualized and made with heart,” he explained.

Dua Tuan Muda has several superior menus, namely sweet and spicy grilled chicken, which is legit, medhok and authentic. Then, soft claw rica.

“To drink there is our breezy orange ice which can quench the thirst of travelers in the desert. “Meanwhile, the dessert dish is Two Young Masters pudding, which is the jiggly-jiggly dream of all the ladies and gentlemen,” he explained.

Maximos and Satria are directly involved in running this business with the help of three employees. To make it easier for consumers to enjoy the products offered, they will soon partner with food delivery services such as GoFood, ShopeeFood, and others in the future.
