
The Faculty of Economics and Business UGM’s academic community mourns the passing of one of its best sons, Prof. Dr. Arief Suadi, M.B.A., at age 86. The deceased was a professor at the Department of Accounting who passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 20:27 WIB at Jogja International Hospital (JIH) Yogyakarta.
Before being buried at the UGM Family Cemetery, Sawitsari, the body of Prof. Arief Suadi was laid to rest at the UGM Hall on Monday (4/28). The ceremony, followed by the UGM academic community, was led by the Chairman of the Board of Professors of UGM, Prof. Dr. M. Baiquni, M.A. Prof. Dr. M. Baiquni, M.A., representing the extended UGM family, also expressed condolences and deep sorrow over the passing of Prof. Arief Suadi.
“On behalf of the Rector and the leadership of UGM, we are here to pay our last respects to Prof. Arief Suadi. He prayed for the deceased to receive the noblest place at His side and for the family to find strength to continue his struggle.
Baiquni said the deceased served as a professor of Accounting Science at FEB UGM and delivered his inaugural speech, ‘The Importance and Various Concepts of Profit,’ on August 26, 2000. He took this title because, at that time, profit, called income, became more important than in previous times due to economic difficulties that could not be overcome.
He hoped that the knowledge taught to his students would continue and become the deceased’s charity to increase the reward.
“We also pray that UGM will continue to produce brilliant scholars like the deceased,” he hoped.
Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM, Dr. Didi Achjari, M.Com, Ak, CA, while reading the curriculum vitae of Prof. Arief Suadi, said that he was born in Kudus on January 20, 1939. He completed his undergraduate studies at UGM in 1961. He also received a Master of Business Administration degree from Denver University, USA, in 1964 and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, USA, in 1981. He began his career as a lecturer at FEB UGM in 1966 and retired in 2003.
During his career at FEB, he has held several positions: Assistant Dean II from 1982-1985, Head of the Accounting Department from 1987-1989, Pj. Dean of the Faculty of Economics at UGM in 1989-1990, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at UGM in 1990-1991.
For his dedication to the advancement of the world of education, he received the Satyalancana Jasa Utama Award from the President in 1989, the 35 Years Loyalty Award from UGM in 1993, Satya Lencana Karya Satya from the President 20 in 1989, and Satya Lencana Karya Satya from the President 30 in 2000.
Didi also expressed his deep condolences on the passing of Prof. Arief Suadi. FEB UGM has lost a dedicated and inspiring figure in the world of education, especially in accounting.
He prayed for the deceased to be accepted for his good deeds, to receive the best place at the side of Allah SWT, and for the family left behind to be granted sincerity and patience.
Didi revealed that Prof. Arief Suadi was a teacher and senior colleague of the Department of Accounting at FEB UGM.
“As a teacher, he once taught me in the Management Control System (SPM) course. It was an extraordinary pride when I got an A from him because getting it was rare and difficult,” he said.
Didi further said that the knowledge gained from Prof. Arief Suadi’s class was very valuable. In addition, the knowledge gained can be applied to various mandates in various administrative positions at UGM and the Higher Education Service Institution.
“Thank you, Mr. Arief Suadi, for the knowledge. I hope it will become a Jariyah charity. Amin ya rabbal alamin,” he concluded.
