The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), continues to strengthen its commitment to creating an inclusive and sustainable campus. This commitment is reflected in various initiatives, including the provision of facilities that support accessibility for all members of the academic community.
One tangible manifestation of this commitment is the provision of two priority elevators for persons with disabilities and members of the academic community with limited mobility due to certain physical or health conditions. This initiative addresses accessibility needs within FEB UGM buildings, where access for persons with disabilities and individuals with limited mobility, particularly between different floors, was previously limited. To improve accessibility, FEB UGM has installed two priority elevators in the north wings of the Undergraduate Program building and the Master of Science and Doctoral Program building.
“The priority elevators are intended to facilitate the mobility of members of the academic community with disabilities or limited mobility due to certain physical or health conditions, enabling easier access to classrooms, libraries, and other learning facilities,” explained FEB UGM Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, Suyanto, S.E., M.B.A., Ph.D.
Suyanto emphasized that the provision of priority elevators is part of FEB UGM’s efforts to ensure equal access to the educational environment for all members of the academic community. Accessibility is not only about facilitating mobility but also about enabling individuals to participate in academic activities safely, comfortably, and independently.
Suyanto further stated that this initiative aligns with FEB UGM’s mission to nurture future leaders who excel in economics and business, with integrity and a commitment to sustainability. Sustainability is reflected not only in environmental aspects but also in the development of an inclusive educational environment that accommodates diverse needs and promotes equality.
By developing accessibility-oriented facilities, FEB UGM continues to foster a campus environment that supports sustainability. This initiative also reinforces the principle that sustainable development should be realized through infrastructure that considers not only physical and environmental aspects but also the needs and well-being of all its users.
