No remarkable journey is born without process and the courage to persevere. I Gusti Ayu Maresta Amrita Puspa Pujawati completed her studies with a cumulative GPA of 3.63, accompanied by an impressive list of achievements at both national and international levels. A 2021 cohort graduate of the Undergraduate Economics Program, she was one of the graduates of FEB UGM in the November 2025 commencement period.
Maresta vividly remembers that the beginning of her university life was far from easy. During that period, she lost both of her parents, leaving her feeling directionless and unsure about her purpose. However, she slowly began to rise again by seeking positive activities on campus—joining organizations, participating in competitions, and trying new things that helped her rediscover herself. She feels fortunate to have been surrounded by family and friends who offered unwavering support during her most challenging times.
From that journey, she learned that strength does not always come from within; sometimes, it grows from the courage to keep moving forward.
“That challenge became a turning point that shaped my resilience and commitment to this day,” she shared.
In her first and second years as a student, Maresta was actively involved in organizations such as ShARE UGM, UGM ASEAN Society, and BEM FEB UGM. By her third and fourth years, she began stepping out of her comfort zone by participating in various competitions, as well as joining a student exchange program and internships.
Attending a conference at Harvard University became one of the most unforgettable moments of her academic journey. For her, participating in the conference not only broadened her horizons but also significantly contributed to her personal growth. She needed to adapt quickly, particularly when engaging in discussions and collaborating with delegates from diverse backgrounds. These interactions deepened her understanding of global standards and reinforced her confidence that she could stand on equal footing and make meaningful contributions in international forums.
Another memorable experience was studying at The University of Adelaide through the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA), a program under Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). Through this program, she experienced an international learning environment, engaged in discussions with lecturers and students from various backgrounds, and developed business ideas within diverse teams.
“This experience opened new perspectives and created friendships that I still cherish to this day,” she said.
Throughout her studies, Maresta actively participated in numerous competitions at national and international levels, earning dozens of awards. Some of these include the eChallenge Boot Camp at The University of Adelaide (2024), 2nd Place at the NTU–GAIP Insurance Case Competition (2024), 1st Place at Young Entrepreneurs Days at Universitas Indonesia (2023), 1st Place at the International Business Competition and Festival (2023), 2nd Place at BRIlliant Youth Competition by BRI (2023), 2nd Place at the National Business Plan Competition FESFOOD (2023), and many others.
These accomplishments were shaped by her learning journey, maintaining curiosity, asking questions about what she didn’t yet understand, and seeking answers through reading, discussions, and hands-on practice. A small yet powerful habit further strengthened this: self-evaluation. The core values of FEB UGM, particularly integrity, provided an essential foundation for her academic success.
As she steps into a new chapter after graduation, Maresta describes her college years as a compass that guided her toward a clearer “north star.” She sees graduation as a door marking the transition into a new journey of contribution and growth.
“A perfect ending to start a new beginning. I am grateful for all the college experiences I have had because they prepared me for the next stage of my career,” Maresta said.
She also shares a message for students who are still navigating their academic journey: be brave enough to try, be sharp in recognizing opportunities, and do not easily give up when facing failures.
“Be brave to try, be smart in finding opportunities, and build a large failure tank. By doing these three things, opportunities and success will eventually follow,” Maresta concluded.
