Taking time for oneself amid busy academic and organizational activities is very important for students. In these moments, students can better understand themselves through self-care activities that support physical, emotional, and mental well-being. The Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), through the Career and Student Development Unit (CSDU) in collaboration with students from the UGM Professional Psychology Program, held a “Mental Health Workshop: Paint, Plan, and Grow” on Thursday (22/05).
The event aimed to help students recognize their personal circumstances, manage their mental health, and encourage self-reflection through various art therapy activities, such as painting plant pots. The Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., hoped that art therapy could benefit students in maintaining their mental health amid the various dynamics of academic life.
“We hope this activity can help students grow and develop mentally,” he said.
Professional Psychology Program students, Diva Noor Evelina Nabawi, S.Psi., and Zahradhiya Rizqi Gunawan, S.Psi., encouraged participants to understand the importance of self-care. Understanding oneself is an important step in maintaining balance, managing pressure, and supporting mental health amid the dynamics of student life.
“When we feel sad, tired, or stressed, we need first to identify what we need and what we want to relieve our stress. One way to do that is through art therapy,” said Diva.
Meanwhile, during the workshop session, participants engaged in art therapy by painting pots distributed according to their own creativity. Through this activity, students should develop a better understanding of the importance of maintaining mental health and have an opportunity to recognize, express, and care for themselves amid various academic and organizational demands.
