GSW 2024

Thirty students from various countries around the world are learning about social entrepreneurship in the 2024 Global Summer Week (GSW) organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM).

This event, held over 11 days from July 15-25, 2024, is attended by international students from universities in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, South Korea, and countries in the ASEAN and Scandinavian regions. It is also joined by 56 students from various universities in Indonesia. This year’s GSW carries the theme “Sustainable Futures: Igniting Change through Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation.”

The Dean of FEB UGM, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, S.E., M.Com, Ak.CA., warmly welcomed all the participants of GSW 2024 who came from different countries around the world. He conveyed that GSW 2024 is not only an event that brings together students from various countries filled with brilliant ideas. However, this year’s GSW is also becoming more interesting with the collaboration between FEB UGM and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore and the University of Groningen (UG) Netherlands. The partnership between NTU and UG is a testament to the power of international collaboration in creating a diverse learning and innovation environment.

“The theme of this year’s GSW is Sustainable Futures: Igniting Change through Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation, reflecting a rather urgent need. This is a call for all of us to utilize our skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm to create a sustainable future,” he explained on Monday (15/7) during the opening speech of GSW 2024 at the FEB UGM Learning Center Building.

Didi stated that GSW offers an opportunity for all participating students to interact with each other, exchange ideas, and collaborate on various projects to solve community problems. Therefore, participants are expected to take full advantage of this opportunity to share ideas, learn from one another, and inspire and ignite positive change in the future.

“Thank you for joining us in Global Summer Week 2024. I hope you all have an inspiring and productive experience. Let us ignite change and pave the way for a sustainable future,” he urged.

GSW is an annual event organized by FEB UGM in the form of a two-week short-term learning program during the summer. This program has been held since 2014 under the name International Week (iWeek) which highlights various current global issues. GSW is conducted in multiple forms such as executive talks, lectures, field visits, social entrepreneurship projects, and cultural activities. The GSW program is equivalent to 3 credits (5 ECTS) per activity, all of which are held in Yogyakarta.
