The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), welcomed 51 international students through a series of orientation activities that introduced the academic environment of FEB UGM and the social and cultural life in Yogyakarta. The event was held on Tuesday (February 3, 2026) at Alumni Corner, FEB UGM.
The 51 international students include 35 undergraduate exchange students, 3 undergraduate dual-degree students, 10 international Master of Business Administration (MBA) students, and 3 Master of Science in Economics students. They come from 14 countries and represent 24 partner universities of FEB UGM.
The Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FEB UGM, Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., encouraged international students to make the most of their study period not only for academic activities. Students should also aim to develop cross-cultural friendships and networks.
“Build as many connections as possible while you are in Indonesia. When you return to your home countries, we hope you can become informal ambassadors who share positive experiences about Indonesia, especially Yogyakarta and FEB UGM, with your families, friends, and professional networks,” he said.
During the session, the students learnt about FEB UGM’s international collaboration network. Various programs available for students include student exchange, double degree, and short programs. In addition, students received explanations of their academic journey during the semester, covering course planning, registration processes, credit transfer systems, and academic administrative services.
International students also gained cultural understanding through a Cultural Orientation session delivered by Arizona Mustikarini, S.E., M.Bus(Acc.), Ph.D., Ak., CA., CACP., QRGP., a lecturer from the Department of Accounting, FEB UGM. During this session, she emphasised that cultural understanding involves more than just literature or research; it also requires direct experience.
Indonesia is a highly diverse country in terms of culture, religion, and ethnic backgrounds. The best way to understand culture is not only by studying it, but by experiencing it directly while living and interacting with the community,” she explained.
The international students at FEB UGM not only participated in campus orientation. They also had the opportunity to join the Cultural Immersion Day (CID) on Thursday (February 5, 2026) at Kembangarum Tourism Village, Turi District, Sleman Regency, to introduce Indonesian culture, particularly Yogyakarta culture.
Through this series of orientation activities, FEB UGM hopes that international students will be able to undergo their academic studies smoothly. They should adapt well and gain a meaningful educational and cultural experience during their time studying in Yogyakarta, while understanding local values.
