Hundreds of researchers and experts in economics and business from various countries attended the 12th Gadjah Mada International Conference on Economics and Business (GAMAICEB), organized by the Publications Unit of the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM. The conference was held on September 26-27 at The Alana Hotel and Convention Center, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region.
The conference was attended by 126 researchers from five countries worldwide, namely Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Morocco, New Zealand, and Taiwan. These researchers presented their papers in parallel presentations divided into three sessions. The papers presented were divided into several sub-themes: economics, entrepreneurship, accounting, and marketing.
The 12th GAMAICEB Chief Committee, Gigih Fitrianto, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. said in his speech that the theme “Embracing Inclusivity and Diversity in Economics and Business” raised by this year’s GAMAICEB aims to emphasize the importance of inclusivity and diversity in economic growth and business practices. According to him, inclusivity can be one of the competitive advantages for companies. “Data shows that inclusive companies have higher levels of productivity.”
He hopes this conference will allow all participants to explore the topic of inclusivity and use this forum to develop solutions and recommendations to address issues such as economic inequality and gender equality. In this way, modern business and economic practices can be improved.
Meanwhile, FEB UGM Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation and Alumni, Gumilang Aryo Sahadewo, Ph.D., expressed his hope that the research generated from this conference can impact changing business practices from business as usual to more inclusive. “Hopefully, this can be a forum for all of us to learn together and improve the quality of our research.”
The conference had three keynote speakers. They were Assoc. Prof. Poppy Ismalina from Universitas Gadjah Mada spoke about women’s empowerment, and Prof. Renato Pereira from Iscte Business School talked about entrepreneurship and Assoc. Prof. Jengfang Chen from Macquarie University spoke about the salaries of female auditors in Taiwan. All three discussed their respective topics regarding inclusivity in business and economics.
