UGM Students Won 2nd Place in Hack of Thrones Hackathon

Students of Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada once again achieved national award. Students from the 'Orientaru' Team namely Aditya Laksana Suwandi (Information Technology 2015), Hibatul Ghazi Zulhasmi (Electrical Engineering 2016), and Veronika Xaveria (Business IUP 2016 - Double Degree Program at University of Melbourne) won 2nd place in "Hack of Thrones" Hackathon on 9th-10th February 2019 at Tokopedia Tower.
Hack of Thrones is a 24-hour Hackathon competition organized by Binar Community in collaboration with Tokopedia. This competition is one part of the series of events from Retrospekt! by Binar Community consisting of Conference, Job Fair, Binar Connect, and the Hackathon. In this competition, each participant was required to make an application based on one of the three topics given - Marketplace, Fintech (Cashless), O2O (Online-to-Offline). One team consisted of three members where there must be at least one member as a coder.
The first stage was the selection of proposals related to the idea of an application made based on one of the topics given. From the total of 350 teams participating in Hack of Thrones, 30 teams that passed the selection were invited to participate in ‘The Battle of the Hacker’ (The Hackathon) to make their applications within 24 hours. In the process, each participant was given the opportunity to consult with mentors from Tokopedia regarding their ideas. After application creation process, each team needed to pitch their project to a group of mentors. The mentors would then decide six qualified teams to pitch their applications to the panel of judges.
The next stage was ‘The Final Battle’ where six finalists had the opportunity to present their projects in front of the judges and other participants. This competition was open to participants aged 20 to 35 years old. Thus, some of the finalist teams come from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Bina Nusantara, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya, SMK Taruna Bhakti while some other finalist teams consist of members who have worked in the industry.
In the final round, the finalists delivered their pitch regarding the application that they made based on the topic chosen in front of the 5 judges (10 minutes presentation and 10 minutes question and answer); Rahul Taparia (VP of Fintech Business Tokopedia), Alamanda Shantika Santoso (Founder of Binar Academy), Herman Widjaja (Tokopedia VP of Engineering), Andrew Efendi (Head of Engineering at Tokopedia Reliability Division), and Jessica Jap (Head of Strategic Development Tokopedia ). After pitch presentation from the finalists, the judges announced the winner of the Hack of Thrones. At the end, 1st winner from APH Team, 2nd winner from Oriantaru Team Universitas Gadjah Mada and 3rd winner from APT-GET-WINNER Universaitas Bina Nusantara
