A team of students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), achieved remarkable success as the 2nd runner-up in the SxC Grand Impact Business Case Competition 2024, held online on November 23, 2024.
The FEB UGM student team, competing under the name Hyena Jogja, also won the Best Paper Award. The team consisted of Ivan Hiumawan (Management 2023) and Anne Grace Pardosi (Accounting 2023).
Ivan shared that the two awards were won after competing against dozens of teams from various universities across Indonesia. The competition required participants to go through preliminary and final presentation rounds. In the initial round, participants were tasked with writing a paper that included a company analysis, company profile, proposed solutions, and conclusions. The study included an in-depth review of internal and external factors and risk mitigation strategies.
This year's competition presented contestants with a real-world business case involving cash flow issues at a company facing a payment gap between customer and supplier obligations. This resulted in an unhealthy cash flow, and teams were challenged to develop strategic solutions to address the problem. Hyena Jogja presented an innovative solution focused on customer payment efficiency and optimized receivables management.
The final stage, consisting of an online presentation, was a unique challenge for Ivan and Anne, as it was their first experience in a competition of this scale. "This was our first time presenting at such a big event. I was nervous and even blacked out during the Q&A session with the judges," admitted Ivan. The 10-minute presentation required the team to communicate their ideas concisely, clearly, and effectively.
Despite the pressure, Hyena Jogja performed exceptionally well and received high praise from the judges. In addition to the technical challenges, Ivan revealed that his health had deteriorated during the competition, making it difficult to complete the work. "Although it was hard, we supported each other, and in the end, we achieved satisfying results," Anne added.
Anne credited FEB UGM with playing a significant role in her success. The team received mentoring from the Career and Student Development Unit (CSDU), led by Prof. Dr. Mamduh M. Hanafi, M.B.A., who provided invaluable feedback throughout the competition. "Pak Mamduh gave us critical input, especially in creating an integrated analysis and solution," said Anne.
Winning these awards was a proud moment for Team Hyena Jogja. They hope their achievement will inspire other FEB UGM students to take on challenges in various competitions.
