Fasting is not only an act of worship but also offers various health benefits, both physical and mental. This was conveyed by Dr. Zaenal Muttaqien, AIFM, in his sermon at the Gathering and Iftar event for the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) community. The event, held for the second time on Friday, March 14, 2025, featured the theme “Fasting and Holistic Health (Bio-Psycho-Socio-Spiritual).”
In his lecture, the lecturer from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK) UGM emphasized that fasting provides health benefits not only in a biological sense but also in psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. He explained how fasting promotes emotional control, which positively affects physical health, especially in preventing diseases related to blood clotting.
“Anger can trigger blood clotting, which poses health risks,” he explained.
On this occasion, he also encouraged the FEB UGM community to always do good to others. He also hoped that FEB UGM members could maintain a joyful and open-hearted attitude.
“A cheerful and radiant expression positively affects health and social life,” he said.
Dr. Zaenal affirmed that fasting is an opportunity to improve the overall quality of life. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing emotions, and maintaining good social relationships, individuals can fully optimize the benefits of fasting.
