Attending university is not only about pursuing academic achievements but also about maintaining personal balance. It was emphasized by Educator and Social Activist, Rennta Chrisdiana Awie, M.Sc., during the FEBinvinity: Briefing for KIP-K Scholarship Recipients held at the Learning Center Auditorium, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), on Saturday (September 20, 2025).
Rennta highlighted that every student’s journey is filled with packed activities from morning until afternoon. Therefore, students need to maintain psychological stability throughout their studies. She shared several tips for navigating university life, ranging from recognizing one’s potential to sustaining personal happiness. In this regard, mindfulness becomes the key to leading a more purposeful and productive academic life, ultimately achieving meaningful accomplishments.
She also reminded students to routinely do a “check-in” with themselves by taking time to feel their emotions, understand what they are truly experiencing, and ask simple questions to themselves. According to her, emotions are the primary drivers of action. Thus, students who can recognize and lead themselves will be more prepared to face challenges.
“College life can indeed be tough, but with self-leadership skills, every student can not only endure but also grow,” she added.
Furthermore, Rennta emphasized the importance of valuing oneself as the greatest gift. She addressed the issue of social pressures that often discourage students from expressing themselves.
“Do not let other people’s comments diminish your potential. Stay true to yourself,” she affirmed.
She also invited participants to envision the experiences they wish to achieve during their studies at FEB UGM, how they want to grow within the next year, and what contributions they aspire to make to the faculty and society. Moreover, she encouraged students not to dwell only on what they lack but also to be grateful for and maximize what they already possess. With such awareness, students will be better able to maintain their self-esteem, build healthy relationships with peers, lecturers, and the campus community, and face academic stress with optimism.
