FEB UGM Successfully Holds GAMAICEB and GAMAICI 2021 International Conference

In commemoration of the 66th Anniversary, the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) held two annual international conferences, namely the 9th Gadjah Mada International Conference on Economics and Business (GAMAICEB) and the 9th Gadjah Mada International Conference on Islamic ( GAMAICI) 6th. The event was held on Saturday (25/9/2021) online.
GAMAICEB is an annual international conference that aims to provide a forum for participants to convey ideas and research results related to the latest economic and business issues. Meanwhile, GAMAICI is an international conference that provides a forum to share and promote cutting-edge research in the fields of Islamic Economics and Development, Islamic Accounting and Finance, and Islamic Business Research. GAMAICI is a conference that aims to facilitate intense and productive networking between academics, policy makers, practitioners, students, and other interested parties. which is divided into 3 conferences, namely GAMAICIED (Economics and Development), GAMAICIAF (Accounting and Finance), and GAMAICIBR (Business Research). This year's GAMAICI carries the big theme "Business Continuity and Economic Recovery for Fostering Resilience During Critical Period".
The international conference includes two main agendas, namely the Plenary Session and Parallel Session. The plenary session is a plenary session attended by students, lecturers, researchers, practitioners, and the general public. This session invited 6 speakers from various universities
Prof. Jae Bin Ahn (Seoul National University) delivered his material with the topic "Perspective of Recovery and Economic Resilience after COVID 19". Prof. Jae explained that the paradigm of the global economy during the Covid-19 pandemic had shifted. So, going forward, countries should try to revive the economy without relying too much on fiscal stimulus programs, while also considering structural reforms.
Prof. Asad Zaman (Al-Nafi Online Educational, Ex-Vice Chancelor Pakistan, Institute of Development Economics) presented the topic of “Economic Recovery & Resilience in the Era of Pandemic: Islamic Perspectives”. One of the messages, Prof. Asad said that the community should try to find collective strength, to generate value for society as a whole. One of them is by re-conceptualizing society as one body, if any part is sick, the whole body will feel hurt.
Prof. Iichiro Uesugi (Intitute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University) discussed the topic “How SMEs are impacted by COVID-19 and how they are dealing with it. Prof. Iichiro said that SMEs are vulnerable to adverse shocks such as bankruptcy caused by COVID-19. Certain sectors such as accommodation and restaurants or individual services are the hardest hit.
While Prof. Habib Ahmed (Durham University) brought the topic “Resilient Building for the SME Sector: An Islamic Perspective”. Prof. Habib said that digitalization can help improve capabilities, increase the resilience of SMEs and help rebuild better. In addition, digital technology can, Help build a strong supply chain, Provide direct customer service through digital channels. Another example is the digitization of operations (accounting) processes that facilitate working remotely. The government has a key role in providing digital infrastructure that supports Fintech to provide financial services to SMEs and remote at lower costs.
Dr. Felix Septianto (University of Queensland) brought the topic of “Charitable Marketing during the Pandemic”. Dr. Felix explained that there is potential to apply a growth mindset and a high level of understanding in a practical way. For this reason, entrepreneurs need to continue to encourage other investments that can further build resilience during the pandemic, at the individual and community level. While Prof. Dr. Faridah Hj. Hassan (MARA University of Technology) who discussed the topic “Halal Marketing - Strategy During Pandemic”. Prof. Faridah explain about the focus on app justification, Education, and Copyright marketing on Halal Strategy during a pandemic.
In the next session, the conference participants were divided into several different rooms to present the research results in a parallel session. Participants' scientific works were presented in the parallel session. The room covers the fields of Accounting, Economics, Finance and Investment, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Operations Management, Strategic Management, Leadership and Innovation, Economics Behavior, Economics Development, and other fields.
