Going Global 2021

The trend of globalization is not only an interesting phenomenon for the business sector. In the academic area, the phenomenon of globalization is depicted from the increasing mobility of students and academics to study or do academic activities away from their home universities to other countries. The phenomenon is also unavoidable for the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM). In fact, for the past few years, the interests of FEB UGM students to study abroad have also significantly increased as well as the interests of overseas students to study at FEB UGM. Every year, hundreds of FEB students leave their home country to do student exchange programs, double degree programs, summer schools, conferences, competitions, and others.

However, since the pandemic of Covid-19 hit the globe, international student mobility received a huge impact. Although the international student mobility was hampered, we believe that in the future the opportunities for international exposure and going global will remain open, especially for our students. Departing from our spirit to increase international mobility at the FEB UGM, OIA (Office of International Affairs) FEB UGM initiated an annual event called Going Global Series. This event was officially opened on Friday (05/11). Going Global is a series of events that include a university information session and IUP (International Undergraduate Program) parents meeting. All in all, the main aim of Going Global is to give first-hand information to all FEB UGM students and parents about our overseas partners’ offered programs. This information is not only limited to those related to academic life but also those of the non-academic conditions at our partner universities.

By inviting our partners including the University of Melbourne, SolBridge International School of Business, University of Tsukuba, Erasmus School of Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam, WU Vienna, Neoma Business School, Burgundy School of Business, HAN International School of Business (Arnhem Business School), Toulouse Business School, Goethe University Frankfurt, Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Hochschule Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Fukuoka Women’s University, Hochschule Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences, University of Hull, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, and ESC Clermont, we would also like to strengthen our cooperation with them and giving first-hand information about their Dual Degree/Exchange/Short program for our students. Held on every week on Friday, the information session will be started on 13.00-16.00 WIB. It provides FEB UGM and our partners the possibility to have direct interactions and discussions.

Regarding the Going Global Series which was held back this year, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, M.Com., Ak., CA. as a Dean of FEB UGM stated in his remark speech that since COVID-19 hit the world, it had affected the order of life and had quite an impact on students both in learning process and on international mobility. He added, “This event was initiated to provide information and insight to students at FEB and parents who will be able to decide where their sons and daughters will take part in international activities or then what kind of conditions will be faced by their sons and daughters so that all can be asked through this event.” Hopefully, this event can be useful for students and parents, who will later prepare for international mobility programs.
