Thumbler SIMFONI 2024

The Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) distributed 700 eco-friendly refillable water bottles (tumblers) to the new undergraduate students of the FEB UGM class of 2024. This tumbler distribution initiative is one of the steps taken by FEB UGM to support environmental sustainability.

The Dean of FEB UGM, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, M.Com, conducted the symbolic distribution of the tumblers., C.A., to three students on Wednesday (31/7) during the Socialization and Initiation of Faculty of Economics and Business Students (SIMFONI) event at Plaza FEB UGM. Didi stated that the distribution of tumblers to new students is FEB UGM’s effort to encourage students, lecturers, and professional staff to support waste reduction efforts, including plastic bottles, during campus activities and daily life

“FEB UGM carries a sustainability mission by striving to participate and contribute to avoiding plastic waste on campus,” he explained.

Meanwhile, on a separate occasion, FEB UGM Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., added that the distribution of tumblers to students aligns with FEB UGM’s mission to nurture future leaders in economics and business with a sustainability mindset. With the tagline “Tumbler is Better,” it is hoped that students, as future leaders, will become increasingly aware of waste reduction efforts. Additionally, students are expected to be more responsible for environmental conservation and sustainability.

“The distribution of tumblers is also an effort to socialize and internalize FEB UGM’s mission, especially to new students, as a guide and compass in acting and behaving as new members of FEB UGM,” he explained.

The tumbler distribution received positive responses from new students. Nisa Maharani, a new student in the Accounting program, expressed her happiness and pride in receiving a tumbler. She believes that the distribution of tumblers can encourage students to support FEB UGM’s mission for environmental sustainability.

Muhammad Arvin Prawira, a student in the Economics program, shared a similar opinion. Arvin highly appreciates FEB UGM’s efforts to reduce plastic waste on campus through the tumbler distribution program. “This tumbler distribution is a good step because it can reduce plastic waste and be used long-term,” he said.
