IICP HUE 2024

The Department of Foreign Relations and Diplomacy of Student Executive Board (BEM) Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada, in cooperation with Hiroshima University of Economics (www.hue.ac.jp), successfully held the Indonesia International Contribution Project (IICP-HUE) Spring 2024. This cross-country cooperation project was held offline at the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM on Thursday (8/28). The event lasted for two weeks, from August 28, 2024, to September 11, 2024, with 16 students from HUE and one sensei supervisor.

The Indonesia International Contribution Project is a collaboration between BEM FEB UGM and HUE Kodokan (IICP-KDK HUE), an academic program of HUE that has been contributing to the quality development of students since 2006. IICP-HUE aims to reduce economic disparities in rural areas by developing modern products based on Indonesian local wisdom, namely lurik weaving. In this program, IICP-HUE works with lurik weavers in Sumberarum village, Moyudan district, Sleman, Yogyakarta to develop and market these woven products to the broader community. The products produced by IICP-HUE are very diverse and stylish, combining the wisdom of lurik weaving with the latest market trends, such as twisted fabrics, knot bags, bracelets, lighter cases, bowling shirts, and patchwork vests.

UGM Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation and Alumni, Gumilang Aryo Sahadewo, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., welcomed the visit of IICP-KDK HUE. This activity is expected to strengthen the cooperation between FEB UGM and IICP-KDK HUE.

“I hope this activity will strengthen the relationship between the two parties in the future. I also hope HUE students will enjoy their time in Yogyakarta,” he said on Thursday (8/29) when receiving the IICP-HUE delegation’s visit to FEB UGM.

At the opening ceremony, HUE students and IICP-HUE UGM student buddies discussed the program and exchanged information about the culture and economy of both countries. At the end of the event, one of the HUE students even performed a traditional Japanese game, Kendama, a wooden ball game.

To introduce the campus environment of FEB UGM, students from HUE were invited to visit FEB UGM in a campus tour session. HUE and UGM students can get to know each other and exchange cultures through this informative, fun, welcoming activity series.

Yamate-sensei, the HUE supervisor for IICP-HUE Spring 2024, also expressed his hope for the success of this program. He said he has been involved in village empowerment programs in Indonesia since 2012. Therefore, he hopes that HUE students can contribute to the success of this program by participating in a series of village empowerment activities.

“Even though it only lasts for two weeks, I hope this program can bring benefits and help HUE students make friends with other students,” he said.
