Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through its Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), continues demonstrating its commitment to strengthening its role in the international arena. This is reflected in FEB UGM’s active participation in the Third Steering Committee Meeting of the Master Studies in Sustainable Development and Management (MASUDEM) Consortium, part of the Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) Erasmus program, held in Brno, Czech Republic, on October 8-10, 2010.

At the meeting, Prof. Nurul Indarti, Sivilokonom., Cand.Merc, Ph.D., Professor of FEB UGM and Steering Committee of MASUDEM UGM, represented UGM in discussing the strengthening of curriculum and development of sustainability-related programs in six ASEAN universities involved in the MASUDEM consortium. These six universities include UGM (MM FEB program), UII (MM program), Universitas Trisakti (MM program), and three universities from Thailand: the International College of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Srinakharinwirot University, and Naresuan University.

The meeting was led by Prof. Anetta Caplanova, who opened the discussion by reviewing the progress of the work program over the past two years since the formation of the Consortium. The main agenda focused on implementing new sustainability-related curricula, pedagogical challenges, and efforts to attract students to enroll in new programs and concentrations in sustainability.

During the session, Nurul presented the latest developments from the MM FEB UGM program, which is launching a new concentration called Sustainability Management starting in February 2025. She noted that the support of the MASUDEM consortium has further strengthened the institutional capacity of MM FEB UGM to prepare for the launch of this program, including the training of faculty and research assistants, as well as the development of modules that will serve as teaching materials.

“The MASUDEM consortium will continue to facilitate the learning process for courses in the Sustainability Management concentration and ensure the program’s readiness for the upcoming academic year,” she said in a press release received on Monday (October 14, 2024).

In addition, Nurul highlighted the strategic benefits of UGM’s participation in the MASUDEM consortium. She emphasized that this involvement has expanded UGM’s international networks and provided valuable insights into global sustainability practices. This meeting has significantly enhanced UGM’s institutional capacity to develop curricula that meet current market needs, particularly in sustainability management, a key focus in global development. The new concentration program is expected to enhance UGM’s international competitiveness, attract students from diverse backgrounds, and position UGM as a leader in sustainability management education in Indonesia and ASEAN.

Nurul also emphasized the importance of meeting to share best practices among partner universities. This collaborative approach facilitates the development of learning modules and ensures institutional readiness to address sustainability-related pedagogical challenges. Therefore, this activity is essential in academic capacity building and will significantly increase the program’s attractiveness.
