
The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), mourns the loss of one of its finest figures, retired lecturer of the Department of Economics, Drs. Ibnu Subiyanto, M.Si., passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the age of 77, at 8:30 p.m. at his residence in Perum Sidoarum, Godean, Sleman.
He leaves behind his wife and two children. The late Dr. Ibnu Subiyanto’s funeral took place in Muntilan, Central Java, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FEB UGM, expressed his deepest condolences for the passing of Drs. Ibnu Subiyanto, M.Si. The late Dr. Ibnu Subiyanto was a dedicated lecturer at FEB UGM, having taught thousands of students from 1980 until his retirement in 2013. His dedication and spirit as a Mathematics lecturer at the Department of Economics, as well as his contributions as Deputy Coordinator for Academic Affairs of the Diploma Program at FEB UGM from 1995 to 2004, will always be remembered.
Prof. Dr. Catur Sugiyanto, M.A., shared his fond memories of Drs. Ibnu Subiyanto, describing him as a friendly senior colleague and teacher at the Department of Economics, FEB UGM. He was known as a calm, patient, and respected individual.
“Pak Ibnu, as we used to call him, was my lecturer. He taught Mathematics 1 and 2 back in 1982. He spoke softly, without a microphone, in a class with 150 students, yet the classroom remained silent and attentive,” he recalled.
According to Prof. Catur, Drs. Ibnu Subiyanto was more than just a teacher; he was a role model in humility and perseverance. He vividly remembered conducting field research together on the impact of drought in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, during which Pak Ibnu patiently guided him and the other team members on how to interact with the community and ask questions properly to the respondents.
“Farewell, Pak Ibnu. May you be granted the best place by the side of God Almighty,” he said.
Drs Ibnu Subiyanto, M.Si., was born in Magetan on June 21, 1948. He completed his undergraduate studies at UGM in 1979 and earned his Master of Science degree from the UGM Graduate School in 1994. He began his career as a lecturer at FEB UGM in 1980 and retired in 2013.
Throughout his career, he held several positions, including Assistant Coordinator for Academic Affairs of the Diploma Program of FEB UGM (1995–2001) and Deputy Coordinator for Academic Affairs of the Diploma Program (2001–2004). In recognition of his service to education, he received the Satya Lencana Karya Satya award from the President of Indonesia in 2011 and the 25-Year Service Award from UGM in 2006.
