Deciding between pursuing a corporate career or starting a business is never an easy choice. Agnes Indah Sekar Sari, Co-Founder of Dear Eleanor Tea House, shared her inspiring journey during the Alumni Sharing Session at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), on Monday, February 24, 2025. Under the theme “A Blend of Passion and Possibilities,” she encouraged students to explore opportunities and carefully consider their paths before stepping into the professional world.
A 2017 graduate of the Management Study Program, Agnes recounted her experience in establishing a business in the premium beverage industry. She was inspired by shifting consumer lifestyles during the Covid-19 pandemic and identified an opportunity in the dried fruit-based tea market. Drawing from her participation in various business case competitions, she developed a well-structured business model canvas and launched her venture under the Petik Teh brand, which later evolved into Dear Eleanor Tea House.
However, along the way, Agnes faced a tough dilemma: whether to continue working in the corporate world or fully commit to her business. Initially, she attempted to balance both—working Monday to Friday while managing her tea business outside of office hours. Over time, she realized that achieving success required full dedication. “Just try it first,” she advised, emphasizing the importance of taking the first step and embracing new experiences.
During the session, Agnes also highlighted several essential entrepreneurial skills needed for business success. Innovation and creativity are crucial in adapting to evolving trends and identifying emerging consumer needs. Strategic thinking plays a key role in developing well-planned business strategies for sustainability and growth. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential for managing teams and building effective relationships. Operational management ensures smooth business processes, enhancing efficiency and productivity. Marketing and sales strategies significantly influence business expansion by reaching target audiences effectively. A solid understanding of business regulations helps ensure compliance and long-term sustainability.
By sharing her experience, Agnes encouraged students to embrace challenges, remain adaptable, and commit wholeheartedly to their chosen paths.
