Students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) have once again achieved national recognition. The Sokin Team, consisting of Vania Yuni Kusvita (Accounting 2023), Dita Pratiwi Harahap (Accounting 2023), and Fryan Carol Simarmata (Accounting 2023), won 2nd Place in the Sanggar Sains Scientific Writing Competition (KATALIS Vol. 1) held at Universitas Perjuangan Tasikmalaya on October 25–26, 2025.
Dozens of teams from various universities across Indonesia attended the competition. The selection process began with the submission of full papers, which were evaluated by a panel of judges. Following this evaluation, the best teams were invited to advance to the final round, where they presented their work directly before the judges.
Under the supervision of Heyvon Herdhayinta, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., the Sokin Team presented an idea titled “Digital Marketplace for Yogyakarta Tenun Lurik Based on the Internet of Things (IoT) to Promote Circular Economy and Sustainable Product Branding.” Dita explained that the idea stemmed from the challenge of low brand awareness of Yogyakarta’s tenun lurik amidst the dominance of the linear fashion industry. Through the development of an IoT-based digital marketplace, the team proposed a solution that facilitates product recycling, collaboration among local businesses, and promotion of creative products made from recycled lurik.
Dita further explained that the integration of IoT technology in the marketplace aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness in the lurik industry. Beyond branding, the platform also serves as a medium for public education on sustainability, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—Goals 8 (inclusive and sustainable economic growth), 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure), and 12 (responsible consumption and production). With this approach, lurik is positioned not only as a cultural heritage but also as a future-oriented product supporting Indonesia’s Vision 2045.
During the competition, Dita admitted that her team faced significant challenges, particularly in maintaining motivation and confidence amidst time pressure and the intensity of competing ideas. Initially, the team felt intimidated by the impressive concepts presented by other participants.
“At first, we felt a bit insecure seeing how amazing the other teams’ ideas were, especially since this was our first time making it to the final round. But through that, we learned to stay focused, be confident, and trust what we had prepared,” Dita said.
She added that the team was overwhelmed with joy upon being announced as the second-place winner. “It was a mix of happiness, pride, and disbelief. We hope to keep creating, making a positive impact on society, the faculty, and the university, as well as helping promote local products like tenun lurik to national and global markets,” she concluded.
