The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), proudly achieved a remarkable milestone by winning 1st Place in the Men’s Futsal category at Porsenigama 2025. This victory marks a historic moment and a great source of pride for the entire FEB UGM community, as it is the first time the faculty has ever won the futsal championship at Porsenigama.
Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FEB UGM, expressed his gratitude and pride over the achievement. According to him, this victory was the result of the players’ hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
“This is a truly historic and proud victory for the FEB family,” he said.
Bayu added that the FEB UGM team was strengthened by exchange students from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, and the dedication of their coaches also supported their success.
“We hope to maintain this golden tradition in the years to come. But most importantly, we should enjoy the game, get to know each other, and build friendships with students from other faculties. Winning is just a bonus,” he said enthusiastically.
Alpha Daniel Pangihutan Simanjuntak, captain of the FEB UGM futsal team, stated that the victory exceeded all expectations. Initially, the team only aimed to reach the quarterfinals.
“Our target was actually just to make it to the top eight because in previous years, we always stopped there. But we managed to reach the final and even win it. It is a huge achievement that truly surpassed our target,” Alpha shared.
The team’s preparation was relatively short since the competition announcement came quite suddenly. Nevertheless, the team’s high spirit drove them to train intensively. For about a month, the team practiced two to three times a week and held two match simulations on weekends.
“The training time was limited, but we made up for it with more frequent sessions,” Alpha added.
Support from the faculty also played a crucial role in this success. Every match was attended by enthusiastic supporters, including students, lecturers, and members of Econolympus, who provided strong moral encouragement for the players. The faculty also provided excellent training facilities, including a futsal court of similar size to GOR Pancasila, complete training equipment, and facilities for physical and goalkeeper training.
“The faculty’s support meant a lot to us. In addition to moral support, we also received excellent training facilities and comprehensive equipment. All of that helped us prepare better for the competition,” Alpha said.
The team’s triumph was also shaped by the guidance of two skilled coaches, Coach Denis Juan Tito Samaran and Coach Fadhil, who trained the players in set play strategies, defensive formations, and counter-attack techniques, the team’s primary weapon. Their tactics and improvisations proved effective, enabling FEB UGM to perform solidly in every match and secure a brilliant victory in the final.
Muhammad Izzat Juffry, who has been part of the FEB futsal team for three years, shared that this experience was more than just a tournament. For him, futsal is not merely about competition but also about camaraderie and togetherness.
“We all love playing futsal, so even when we’re tired, we enjoy it. What matters most isn’t just the victory, but the moments of fighting together and expanding our friendships on campus,” Izzat added.
