Darwin Tandjo, a Management student from the 2022 cohort at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), who is part of the Wisma Consulting team, successfully secured First Place at the Global Business Environmental Case Competition (GBECC) 2025.
The competition was organized by 180 Degrees Consulting Universitas Indonesia (180DC UI) on October 25, 2025, at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI). Darwin, along with Polar Osaka (Biomedical Engineering, 2022) and Darren Halim (Civil Engineering, 2022), claimed the top prize after outperforming 59 teams from various universities across Indonesia.
GBECC is a national-scale business case competition that challenges participants to formulate strategic solutions to global environmental issues through sustainable business approaches. This year’s case focused on strategies for how Mekari can become a leader in Indonesia’s digital industry, actively contributing to the green economy as both an enabler and a key actor in the sustainability ecosystem. Participants were required to develop a comprehensive strategy that encompassed product innovation, sustainable business models, and realistic, measurable environmental initiatives.
Darwin shared that the competition required each team to go through several rigorous selection stages, including an executive summary selection, proposal submission, and a pitch deck presentation before a panel of judges consisting of academics and business practitioners. He noted that one of the biggest challenges the team faced was aligning the technical approaches from members with engineering backgrounds with more strategic business perspectives. However, through intensive collaboration and effective communication, the team successfully transformed technical ideas into business strategies that were economically viable, sustainable, and easily understood by stakeholders.
“We hope this experience will inspire other students to be courageous in competing and sharpening their analytical and critical thinking skills in solving real-world problems,” Darwin said.
