The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), distributed 613 reusable tumblers to its 2026 undergraduate first-year students. The Dean of FEB UGM, Prof. Didi Achjari, M.Com, led the symbolic handover. C.A., and received by three students representing each undergraduate study program during the Faculty’s Student Orientation and Initiation Program (SIMFONI) held at the FEB UGM Plaza on Wednesday (August 5).
Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, explained that the tumbler distribution is one of FEB UGM’s initiatives to promote sustainability on campus.
“This initiative is not merely intended as a souvenir or memento from PIONIR SIMFONI. More importantly, it reflects our shared commitment to adopting a healthy lifestyle while embracing sustainability both on campus and in the wider community,” he said.
Bayu further noted that the initiative aligns with FEB UGM’s mission to nurture future leaders who are conscious of sustainability issues.
“The 613 members of the FEB UGM Class of 2026 are not simply new additions to our academic community; they are future ambassadors and leaders in the making. Therefore, we aim to instill sustainability values from the very beginning of their academic journey, one of which is through the distribution of these 613 tumblers,” he added.
Raditya Setiadi, a new student from the Undergraduate Program in Economics, expressed his appreciation for the initiative. According to him, the tumbler distribution demonstrates FEB UGM’s genuine commitment to encouraging a more sustainable lifestyle.
“I think this is a really great program. It’s not just the students who are encouraged to adopt sustainable habits—the university also demonstrates its commitment by providing facilities that support them. At FEB, we even have Toyagama refill stations where we can refill our drinking water,” he said.
Dewa Ayu Regina Cahyaningtyas, a new student from the Undergraduate Program in Management, shared a similar sentiment. She admitted that she was pleasantly surprised and delighted to receive a tumbler as part of the faculty’s welcome program for new students.
“The university encourages us to get used to carrying our own drinking water and become more environmentally conscious by reducing the use of single-use plastic bottles. I think initiatives like this are truly beneficial in helping students build more environmentally friendly habits,” she said.
The tumbler distribution is part of FEB UGM’s broader efforts to create a more sustainable campus. Through this simple initiative, the faculty hopes that new students will not only embrace environmentally responsible lifestyles but also become future leaders committed to sustainability and capable of making a positive impact on society.
